He was one of those actors who was sort of attached to that 60s onslaught of overnight sensations, Albert Finney, Michael Caine etc, but it never really happened; he had a few hits, but sort of bumped along the bottom, the kind of actor that gets greeted with "Aren't you that bloke off the telly?".

Shame.

Also a shame.

Genuinely talented artiste, from a period filled with awesome talent (that article doesn't mention his time with the Beach Boys) and I would put Wichita Lineman amongst the all time best pop recordings.

I thought it was really touching, when he announced he was doing a farewell tour, while he could still remember most of the songs.

He was part of what became known as The Wrecking Crew, a group of go-to session musicians that played on hundreds of chart hits, for the biggest known names of the time, but he was one of the few that broke through and had proper solo success.

I had to look him up. Sad really as as soon as I saw his picture it was an 'Oh Him' moment.

A horribly arrogant man !. Some years ago at Heathrow he ploughed into a customs man there who was just doing his job and came out with something like "You can't expect me to do that, I'm a celebrity, an entertainer". Ego-soddin'-maniac !.

I'm gonna go and estimate that in another 577 days the general public will have realised that he's been a horrible little sex pest for a good 50 years.
