Amyone work it?

What do you do, on days off, when everyone is asleep?

I work 5on 3 off.
Have for a few year now.

My house is really boring at night.
Even drawwing on my wifes face is dull now.

Yeah. I used to really enjoy my late shifts at work.

If you're bored though you could start a new hobby? Or indeed as V says, a ride can be fun. I myself like to mess with computerS sometimes if I can't sleep and it's too cold to be in the garage working on a vehicle.

Amateur astronomy or ham radio are good night shift hobbies.

I used to work night shifts at the airport on the fuel depot every 3rd shift rotation.

4 days, 4 off, 4 days, 4 off, 4 nights 4 off.

However when someone left, we ended up doing double nights and after 10 years I hated it as it really messed my sleep and mental health up.

However it really helped when I had to study for my NEBOSH exam for my new job!

A few years ago I started a network monitoring job on shift via an agency, the shifts were advertised as 4 days on, 4 days off, 7 hour shifts repeated.
When I had the interview they asked if I was happy with the advertised hours, I agreed it was fine - not the first time I've worked like this.

Started the job and on the first day they mentioned it was 4 days on, 4 days off, 4 nights on, 4 nights off, etc. News to me... The agency forgot to mention the night shifts or put them in the advert!

I gave it a go and lasted about 5 months, the night shifts were fun. There was always 2 on, so we shared the shifts - took a sleeping bag and pillow and slept under a desk for half the night, then swapped over.
The rest of the night was spent watching films, I quickly ran out of any decent Netflix shows Laughing .

A long time ago I worked 12 hour shifts 7 till 7. If I recall correctly it was days 4-on, 5-off, then 5-on, 4-off, alternating days and nights. It was lab work on a small factory site and on nights I’d be working alone. It was agency work but I was there for 3 years. I didn’t like it much but the money was good until they restructured and wanted to put me on 8-hour days where I’d lose the shift bonus.

My contract was up for annual renewal at the end of December but the manager just assumed I’d sign up and thought the paperwork could wait. When I said I wasn’t happy he kicked off so I said I wouldn’t be coming back after the imminent Christmas shutdown. Come January they were phoning me up asking me to come in but I had no contract, I was pissed off and besides, the agency found me other work quite quickly. Their loss, although I did have to start spending a fortune on commuting and the new job wasn’t great either.

Nights were mostly quiet and boring. Around 4pm I’d barely be able to keep my eyes open, then come the 7am shift change I’d be wide awake and thinking I’d go into town or something, only to fall asleep almost as soon as I got home. It wasn’t a healthy lifestyle and not particularly good for a social life. I had just got into bikes though, and I couldn’t stay off it.

Around 20 years ago l worked 12 hour 4 on 4 off days and night shifts as an on-site electrician at a big site in London. Night shifts were awesome at the time as I was 19-22.

When on night shift l used to start at 8pm and then get all my PPM work done by 11pm then would go to sleep till 5-6am followed by sitting on the internet until shift change over at 8am. I had a hidden sleeping area with a sleeping matt and sleeping bag etc in one of the quieter plant rooms up on a concrete ledge that I accessed with a ladder that l could pull up behind me.

Got away with it for a few years until someone found my hiding place, but no one knew it was me, as we had 8 guys in the maintenance team. All the other guys had things going on during night shift too, such as working on cars, sleeping, side jobs etc until one guy got caught working as a mini cab driver after he would clock in for the night shift. After then cameras were installed in the control room but l left around that time.

I also used to go on piss ups in London when not on shift and let myself into one of the empty buildings/floors and sleep for a few hours on a sofa before taking the train home. Laughing
