OK, I've just moved from a 750cc to a 400cc and am absolutely loving it!

Just want to know who else is out there on a 400 machine, what you ride and why you chose it?

1991 ZZR 400K (a ZZR 600D with a down-sleeved motor and no oil cooler).

Was stupidly cheap with 12 months MOT and tax at a time I needed a replacement bike ASAP.

I like it enough go in it to be reasonably interesting, extremely comfortable so can eat up the miles.

I dropped a couple of teeth on the front and gained a couple on the rear to give it a bit more urgency. Made fuel economy suck though.

Threw it down the road a couple of weeks ago so it's getting slowly repaired. Just fitted a new YSS shock, a stainless and carbon micron system which sounds awesome as you approach the redline. Waiting on replacement fairings from China.

I'll probably put a 600 lump in it come Spring/Summer as it's burning oil now and gaskets, rings, etc for the 400 lump are pricey. Swapped the shite tokico callipers for Nissins a few months back.

As it stands now (with fucked fairings)

I'd love a NC30 (VFR) and a GK76A (GSXR). Decent examples of either seem to want silly money though. A place local to me just flogged an NC30 that made the worst use of the term barn find seem nice for £1200.

Sorry I can't help you on that one yet, my xs400 is still living in the garage, waiting for someone to give it some tlc.

However I have ridden all sorts of bikes in my life, including some larger bikes.
I also now choose to ride a smaller cc bike (250cc) and am happier.
I get less hassle from the piggies, less cost to run, and my insurance is a whole lot less Smile .

the little bandit gave up the other, no sign of a spark, with everything that can be tested showing that everything is fine, if I manage to figure out what the issue is it will be getting some new piston and a re-bore.

on a brighter note, I get my new bike tomorrow, which is not a 400

If you're at that stage then I assume you're at the CDI being fucked?

An hour picking off the potting compound and a quids worth of capacitors replaced got mine running Thumbs Up

ME!

I bought it because I was looking for a road bike, I'm a hoarder and the Super Four was being sold cheap by a member on here, I needed to have it. Thumbs Up Laughing

I enjoy it, she's a bit slow but good fun all the same.

Same problem on two cdi is very unlikely specially with the second being known to work before hand. I think it maybe the crank pickup

I always wanted a ZXR400, but apparently so does everybody else. The only ones I've seen for reasonable money have been dicked with, dropped, crashed or have done daft mileage.

But.. Dem intake tubes. They just give me a feeling in my special place.

I've got at KTM duke 390, absolutely love it, pretty much the same weight as a 125, but with 3 times the power.
Bike before that was a 1968 7hp vespa scooter that I still have and ride.

Wouldn't it have been easier to make use of a multimeter to check the wiring and other components before sourcing another CDI? The resistances for the pick up coil are in the manual.

First 3 proper bikes were 400s.
Absolutely loved the NC29. Best handling one of the lot I found.

Check pickup wiring where it enters the side casing, mine is brittle as fuck and snapped a couple of weeks after the CDI was repaired Rolling Eyes

My first bike was a Yamaha XJR400. After I part-exchanged I used to stop off at the showroom after closing so I could look at it! It was there for about a year. I wish I could have kept it. The DVLA vehicle check says it was subsequently exported. Crying or Very sad XJR400 is one of my eBay saved searches.

In common with others here, I hanker after a ZXR400 as well.

2001 Honda CB400 Superfour Hyper-VTEC Wink

Here it is at a stop off for a burger in Wales part way through an 800 miles, 2 day trip.

https://i.imgur.com/79bvbWX.jpg

And not the greatest video, but oooh dat VTEC Cool
https://youtu.be/yyiBaGtH9Zk

I need to do a new one with a decent audio recorder and camera at some point.

It's my daily/commuter bike so gets washed once every few months, has been down the road twice, has just had a new clutch cable and sprocket carrier bearing, it's done around 34k miles I think, the last 12k by me in just over a year.

I've had a few 400s over the years, currently have two NC31 Superfours, a V-tec Superfour, an NC30 and an NC29.

Might have an addiction problem.
