PostPosted: 13:37 - 08 Jan 2016    Post subject: I Rode 125 On Motorway Reply with quote

I recently passed bike test so I took my 125 YBR on motorway to see what it's like. I only went from one junction to the next and back on M42, junctions 3 - 2 but I really enjoyed it. It was dry, I stayed in inside lane doing approx. 55 - 60 mph, I never found artics a problem.

I'd be reluctant to ride on motorway in the dark or when it's wet until I get my bigger bike in April, looking at getting 600cc minimum. Now I've rode on motorway it makes me more impatient to get bigger bike but have to wait until April due to finances.

Has anyone else rode 125 on motorways ?

Yes. From North East London (South Woodford) to Windsor, on my RXS 100. M25 and M4.

Not hard.

A c90 was the slowest thing I've ridden on the motorway. It was tedious.

Same here. A great feeling to be liberated from red traffic lights on A roads.

I commute Birmingham to Rugby, can't wait until I get bigger bike Very Happy

Nice 1 Thumbs Up

Don't know what it's like until tried it...it's good compared to A roads.
Motorways seem like glorified dual carriageway with 3 lanes. Smile

Yeah I used to take wifey's 125 up the M25 a couple of junctions on a fairly regular basis. It'll hold 65 no problem and as long as you plan the overtakes well in advance it's not really much of an issue.

I wouldn't say I enjoyed it though

Well to be fair I just don't enjoy motorways at all, regardless of the machinery. But at least on my thousand I'm sitting at 85+ (which equates roughly to the speed limit of 70 miles per hour of course) so it gets done quicker. Being stuck significantly slower than that is a big soul destroying.

All motorways are dull. Fast or slow its just a long relentless sit in a lane and do nothing. Still preferable to London traffic though.

Not really sure what the point of this post is?

But the smallest machine I rode on the motorway was my 2001 Speedfight 100. I later found out that it's true top speed on the flat was 54mph, but would go a bit more in good conditions.

Me and a mate have both ridden from Banbury to Worcester on CG125's using the M42 for most of it.

I wonder if anyone with a de-restricted 50cc ped or a 70cc kitted one has used their bikes on motorways much though?

I rode my 125 on the m42/m6 - no big deal really other than its just so boring. When I picked up my triumph America and rode it from brum to Coventry did the same thing (m6/m42)......again, really boring.

The common denominator here is motorway riding is boring. The only time it's fun as when traffic is at a standstill and you're not.......granted on the M25 that's probably more often than not lol.

Hi

With 2 stroke 125s, ridden them on motorways many time.

My quickest ever time from my mothers to my old place in Mansfield (about 150 miles, most of which was motorways, with most of the rest being a fast dual carriageway) was on a 125. Woud happily sit at about 85 and had a big enough tank to do it in one hit, and was comfy enough to do it.

All the best

Katy

Tbh these days I would 100% much sooner ride a CG125 on the motorway than a full power tuned 2stroke 125. Im a wimp in my old age and always have that feeling in the back of my mind about when is it gonna lock up and throw you off at 80mph+? Laughing

As for the M42 yeah it's not a great place in rush hour times, probably no different to other motorways, but the std of driving is horrendous and people are always using phones or watching screens instead of the road. I've seen crashes happen right in front of me in bad conditions, and I remember that dark day a few years ago in the fog when that horrible pile up happened and the blaze melted the road surface for a few hundred metres.

I remember going to Portsmouth via M42/40 to get the ferry a few years ago, when I had the ninja and I couldnt get over how busy it was with convoys of trucks at 4am. I expected a quiet empty Road and an easy 100mph cruise. Saying that I just spluttered onto the ferry on 18L of fuel, probably would have missed it looking for petrol if we'd gone quicker.

Little chance of that if you can pull the clutch vaguely quickly. And I still ride with a hand covering the clutch even on a 4 stroke most of the time.

All the best
