Posting kit to your destination.

I was looking at and thinking about LE-to-JOG.

Having done it before and learnt a few lessons on the way, it got me thinking.
Would it be a mad idea to post kit to your final destination, so that it is waiting there for you upon your arrival?
What got me thinking about this was when I toured Scotland and it rained EVERY fecking day, heavy rain as well.
Even with dry bags, by the end of the tour everything was wet.

So I was thinking that when I try to do LE-to-JOG in 24 hours again, I might post some kit (warm & dry clothes) to the B&B at my final destination.
I would have to get agreement from the B&B first, I know that.

As I would be doing it unsupported, surely it`s a bit less kit to have on the bike?
Do you think Hotels/B&B`s will allow this, has anyone done this before?
Did it cause any issues?

How much gear do you need???

I lived off the back of my motorcycle for 3 months and I was camping nearly every night. You need three sets of clothes. Wearing, clean and dirty.

If your gear is getting wet, you have the wrong gear.

As for doing a 24h run the length of the country. Surely you just need the gear you're in and something to change into?

If I'm doing a weekend run with my club, I'll easily cover the distance (835 miles) from Lizard Point to Dunnet head (leave friday Evening, back home Sunday evening, two piss-ups on the way). I usually take the clothes I'm standing up in, my oilskins and a set of dry clothes to wear in the bunkhouse. If it looks like it's really going to hoy it down, I throw in a spare pair of gloves, extra socks, spare bike trousers and base layer.

You can bung your wet gear in the drying room if you arrive wet. People up in the Highlands of Scotland are usually doing outdoor stuff, most places have a drying room/airing cupboard, they'd rather that than you hanging up wringing wet clothes and muddy boots in their bedrooms.

You are seriously over thinking it.

I travelled Russia with pretty much one set of main clothes. I did however have two T-shirts and 3 pairs of underpants and a pair of shorts. One rain jacket (that failed) and one set of rain trousers which did not fail and one set of boots + 1 set of socks.

I travelled for months on end and didn't wash them (you're not supposed to wash jeans anyway).

I did however get booted out of several hostels as I undid my jacket and the absolute stench came out from months of travel.

Dry clothes will help you psychologically though.

I still remember the week before I got to Irkutsk. I was cold and soaked. I got into my tent cold and soaked and had to put on cold and soaked clothes in the morning. That really hit me hard mentally.

What am I doing here in the middle of Siberia?!!!

I would say that's ^^ taking it to an extreme.

There is no need to be filthy and there is no need not to wash. If you're doing a long tour, you need to spend at least one day a week on personal admin. Old fashioned green soap can be used to wash both yourself and your clothing.

LE-to-JOG is never a one day affair????
Firstly I have to get to Lands End from Ipswich = day 1
Maybe? a rest/check everything day 2
LE-to-JOG day 3
After that, it`s a case of do I want to get back to Ipswich in a day or make it two days to get back at a more leisurely pace?

I gotta say, I feel like a complete lightweight reading the posts about Russia etc... I do a bit of touring across France, Switzerland but, wow...

And in terms of touring, I took my partner on the back of my bike. First time around she brought seven dresses, 7 pairs of shoes, handbags, accessories plus 'normal' clothes. Her makeup bag weighed more than all my clothes put together. We were only there for a week and she only wore one of them.

Pack stuff, get there, have good time.

FZR400 (blown engine), ZXR750 (blown engine), ZX6R (accident), CBR600 which had engine issues after which I learned to change gear..., CBR900, CBR924 (stolen), CB600, CB1300 (everything blew up), BMW K1300GT (written off, hit from rear while stationary), Bandit 1250 for a couple of months, Triumph Sprint ST 1050 (nicked) and somewhere in there, I wrote off a Ducati 748 at Cadwell.
