Hi,

I have found a 125 I want now I have completed CBT,
I am going to arrange a viewing soon and will probably buy,

It's a private seller, does anyone know of a decent bike Transport company? Any experience with any?

I will probably leave them to pick the bike up while I'm at home, so will need the private seller to be ready, be nice if I could also choose the pick up time,
I could be there at the pickup as I have a car, should I be there for that?

The bike is 40 odd miles away from me and I don't have much experience riding apart from the CBT a few weeks ago,

Basically I would like the bike delivered in one piece,
I have considered hiring a van but would probably struggle with strapping the bike upright,

I am in Birmingham the Midlands if that makes any difference,

Thanks

Edit
A2b motorcycle movers have some good reviews, Probably use them, requesting a quote now

Have you tried to ask the seller for delivery against a small fee and driving him back with your car?

Yea I have thought of that,

The owner of the bike is not there(working away) the bike is at his brothers so unsure if he rides,

The bike belongs to a user on here and seems a good deal,
Compared to what I have been looking at more local,
Might just end up paying the money, waiting on a few quotes

Renting a van for a day is quite cheap.

Just ride it. Take it slow, go at a quiet time, and take a break if you're feeling taxed. You'll be fine!

When were you thinking of collecting the bike/having it delivered? Do you have a friend that rides that could ride it back for you instead?

Careful with some "man with a van" type things on Gumtree. I used a guy to take my old bike from London to Leicester and he showed up without a ramp or ropes or ratchet straps or anything. I wanted to move the bike more than I cared about its condition so I lay it on its side and used some old rope I had lying around.

I've used S.O.S. motorcycles before to have a broken down bike recovered. They were very good, but I think they may be a bit pricey.

If you want to ride it and are a bit unsure, I'm in Birmingham. If I'm free whenever you want to collect it I wouldn't mind coming along for the ride if that gives you extra confidence.

^Well this really, but if OP doubts own ability to even rent a van and work out how to safely strap a motorcycle into one, then should he even be riding bikes?

I agree with the pussy thing abit,

But I have just enough cash to buy the bike really,
Was going to buy it and save up for insurance, helmet etc

Was just a decent price so didn't want to let it go,
Should probably just save up longer really

Use breakdown cover to get the bike home. Wink

You've lost the keys but luckily the steering lock isn't on so they can load it into their van easily enough.

For bonus points, use someone elses any vehicle breakdown cover. Laughing

But as you say you've not got the cash for insurance, a helmet and other stuff, there's no point rushing into anything even if it is a decent price as there'll be something else just as good next week.

there is no way I would have a bike sat round uninsured

you cant afford to insure you cant afford to replace if it vanishes over night

Yea your all right,

I just want a bike, since I have done cbt I come on here and you all have bikes,
I drive on the motorway and see motorbikes,
Go shopping and see motorbikes parked up,

Waiting is difficult, couple more months I'll have enough money for everything I need,
Probably should just wait and dream then lol

Getting a payrise soon and also moving in with the Mrs so that halves my outgoings,

Damn waiting game,
Glad I'm against financing though, it is an option but don't want a debt

Sadly, I have to pre-emptively agree with the Tefstorm that be brewing.

It's almost certainly not the most awesomest or cheapest bike ever. Until you're ready to ride it, you're just taking on a risk and a liability.

I spend more money after having moved in with the Mrs. There's more of an excuse to go out, which inevitably leads to spending Laughing

I think you've made the right choice waiting a little while. I know the painful wait all too well, the the excitement when you're waiting on picking up the bike, but it will really tease you having the bike sitting around and not being able to ride it!

However it's not even that important that your first bike be too great. You'll probably get bored of it and want to try something new and keep experimenting until you find what fits you best anyway, so don't feel like you're missing one of a kind Thumbs Up

I'll just wait,

Prices may go up during the summer when I'll have enough cash,

Only had my first go on a bike in January and want to get back at it, no point in skinting myself out for what will be a hobby I suppose, maybe I can treat myself to a pair of gloves or something this weekend,

The moving in with the Mrs thing I assumed everything would just be halves lol

I'll deffinatly need a bike to get out the house, I will get lots of practice then I'm sure, I have been testing staying round hers,
She made my lunch for work for a week but that has stopped already and I haven't officially moved in yet

Moving in with the Mrs, and everything will just be half? Shocked Laughing

In that case you should get the money spent on something right now, or never see it again. You need to buy something that is obviously soon to become obsolete and therefore not worth anything so it's not worth selling and all that!

In my quest for an old sh*tter to rebuild I seem to come across more 125's than anything else. All sorts of condition, and prices to suit any wallet.

I reckon there must be 10 under a grand within 20 miles of me (excluding the Chinese bikes).

My vote goes to wait for a close one, ride it home, pocket man points and avoid feeling like a pussy for getting someone else to do your man chore of getting it home.

I am waiting now,

Went and bought some gloves today to fill the biking urge,
Probably get a helmet in a week or so or next payday,

Decided I'll pace myself and get all the gear I need,
Then I'll buy a bike when I can afford the insurance right away and ride it home

I do know what you mean,

But for me personally, I just had the urge to give motorbikes ago the last year,
I joined this forum January just interested in trying the geton scheme to see if I liked it, hence why I don't own all the equipment yet,

Quite a few people suggested I just went for the CBT so I have something at the end of it,

Glad I did as I emailed a bunch of places who do the geton thing and only heard back from one,
Apparently they were fully booked and will get in touch soon,
Heard nothing, kinda think they can't be arsed to waste the time and petrol for free on a bunch of noobs maybe,

So I am pleased I did the CBT, and to be honest I am finding this forum helps, Kind of gives support and a little push that I needed, being a bit of an indecisive person,

Plus the fact I don't actually know anyone who rides a bike so it's good to have a whole network of people who are experienced to ask for advice,

I am nearly 30 and have a company car so the bike thing is kind of a midlife crisis for enjoyment thing,
So I am in no rush but when I do have all the gear, the bike in the garage ready to go when I want it will feel great I reckon,

I should still have 18 or so months of the cbt left to practice with and then can start the proper tests when I get down to
12 months or so

CBT first I think was a good way to go. It gives you a taste of bikes and riding if you didn't have any prior experience or interest. And wets your appetite for the rest when your ready and can afford it etc.

You could have gone out for 2months buying the riding gear and not had the cash to get the license or CBT done, and then found you didn't get on very well or lost confidence or interest, but with a house full of bike gear to sell or give away etc.
