Hello,
Been a while since I posted here. Unfortunately I was victim of an attempted bike theft for the third time (this time my bike was abandoned and damaged and had to be sold for salvage). I still need one to commute, but it's difficult to do much for security as I can only leave it on my unsecured driveway. The best thing I can do is make a heavy ballast to chain it against. I can fill up an old trash bin with concrete, and put in a metal loop/chain so that I can chain the bike lock against it. It's not a perfect solution but it should put off more casual thieves. Question: what kind of concrete should I use to make the anchor? Is normal concrete from DIY stores strong enough? If it's too easy to crack, then it wouldn't provide that much security. If you have other ideas for making some kind of security ballast, please let me know. Many thanks for your ideas!

Seb

"Postcrete" is bag of pre-mixed cement and aggregate. Tip enough into your container to fill it 3/4 up, start adding water and mix, repeat until it's just short of sloppy, sling your chain / loop in, cover, Strongbow time.

Perfect, thanks for the tips. Once the security's sorted, time to select a new bike...
