...does company bike insurance?

I called Carole Nash and Bennetts and they don't know. In addition, I tried Google, MoneySupermarket etc... and there are no indications. Also, I asked at my local Yamaha dealer, Premier Bikes etc... and they don't know. I even trotted down to a couple of my local fast food places and they're part of chains so it's all handled centrally.

My cunning plan is to buy a motorbike through my little company (I'm self employed) and then to buy insurance through my company. If a pizza shop can do it, I figure I can as well and it's an attempt to get around insurance issues I am currently experiencing living in zone1.

So does anyone know a company that will do that with motorbikes?

FZR400 (blown engine), ZXR750 (blown engine), ZX6R (accident), CBR600 which had engine issues after which I learned to change gear..., CBR900, CBR924 (stolen), CB600, CB1300 (everything blew up), BMW K1300GT (written off, hit from rear while stationary), Bandit 1250 for a couple of months, Triumph Sprint ST 1050 (nicked) and somewhere in there, I wrote off a Ducati 748 at Cadwell.

I'm a bit confused about what the OP actually wants.

Do you mean fleet insurance like the pizza delivery companies run? If so, why would you do that for one bike?

For a vehicle to be insured by a company, the policy must be a commercial policy and IIRC specified for business use

Commercial policy refers to commercial vehicles though.

Company car insurance, for example, is taken out by the company for any car owned, hired, loaned or leased to that company. That's fleet insurance.

So just where is you companies registered address?

any help?


Personally (could be wrong) but I can't see that having a single bike insured in this way is going to be cheaper.
What you may find is that your average pizza shop relies on the rider to have the insurance for business usage.

Yes, MCE.

And FYI bikes aren't treated as company cars, rather they are treated as company plant and equipment. You will have to declare any personal use as a taxable benefit in kind - and this should be reflected in your insurance. Personally I have 100% business use with Class 1 business insurance.

no, the bikes belong to the pizza place so it's the pizza place's responsibility along with the protective equipment.

delivery drivers in cars however are responsible for providing their own transport and insurance etc

Plant and equipment is tax plus 13.8% NI on 20% of used value). And MCE is a fantastically useful call. Really appreciate that.

It's cheaper for tax reasons. Massively cheaper provided I need the bike for business reasons.
