In my local park we seem to have a place for some pretty good artists who come from far and wide to display their talent.
I'm shit at art in general so I always find things like this interesting and I've seen some amazing work there over the last 20 odd years so I thought I'd start posting pics.
It changes fairly regularly, particularly in the warmer, less windy weather so there should be quite a few pics incoming.
The first offering is from my phone so not great, I'll try to remember my camera in future.

Feel free to add anything decent from around your way.

Serious question, when does it progress from graffiti to being artwork?

I've seen some 3D art work done on the floor that is stunning but what you have posted to me is borderline graffiti. Mind you, I'm not a fan of banksy either.

There is/was some wonderful artwork on walls in Northern Ireland but it was all produced during the troubles and was either pro Ireland or Britain.

We have this on the canal near Wolverton and it's considered art because it was done by some local well known artist. My son could have done better but amazingly it hasn't been totally vandalised.

I suppose the subject matter determines whether it's graffiti or not. Personally I think graffiti is usually just indecipherable squiggly lines which defaces or degrades an object or building whereas what's been created in my local park and indeed in your pic, enhances the surroundings or at least it's quality pleases the eye.
Like I said, I'm not the arty type but I do appreciate the skill that's gone into these examples.

Not all graffiti is vandalism. That sort of thing takes a lot more time, effort and skill than some people realize. Its not just some youts rocking up with a spraycan from B&Q & its done in 30 seconds.. Yeah it looks antisocial, but then so do tattoos, big comedy beards and blokes in girls jeans.

Is that a specific term for certain art/graffiti or just a general on for crap art. Laughing

I believe it is, some of the artists/vandals I've spoken to have informed me that they've never been reported to the popo or hassled by anyone.
Sometimes they're there for a good five or six hours at a time.

It can do and I would agree that it does in most cases but in this instance I and probably most people who use this park would rather have this kind of thing on an otherwise drab breeze-block wall located right next to a children's play area.

It's not the art that is in question, it's the place where the graffiti is. In most of the cases the ''artists'' ruin a perfectly alright walls, freshly painted, freshly plastered etc. All graffiti is vandalism, unless it's painted with the consent of the wall's owner.

I'm a bit of a collector of street art and do own a few very iconic prints - usually you will find that anybody 'famous' will have permission from the owners to paint on the street and to be fair most urban art these days has moved into galleries. It's not as real as the iconic 'gaz 4 shaz 9t9 4eva' we used to enjoy on our streets years ago and it's all big money these days.

Given the choice between this:

or this:

I would choose to live around the latter.

I find there's a certain level of vibrancy and life to these kinds of places. You can really feel that people live there. Maybe that'll change as I grow older but for now I'd just get bored and claustrophobic in a neat little community of row-by-row houses and buildings where everything looks the same.

I think it's just that some people like disorder whereas others prefer uniformity. It one of those human differences that will never be reconciled.

Here's a couple taken just around the corner from my house :

And a few (probably commercial/professional) from north of the border up in Scottishland (the bridge they're on looks very similar to the one in Rogerborg's post here : https://www.bikechatforums.com/viewtopic.php?p=4253546&highlight=#4253546 )

Canals seem to attract graffiti artists but the problem is for every good one there are 100 like this which is just down from where my boat is moored in Uxbridge.

Yeah, me too - the 'proper' ones have a kind of gritty look to them, rather than a polished look.

After a quick Google search it seems that it's part of an organised mural trail - https://peoplemakeglasgow.com/things-to-do/visitor-itineraries/city-centre-mural-trail

Old as the hills but still makes a valid point:

If you pay to put up your advert/message/picture/graffiti, suddenly no-one bats an eye? Thinking
