Will depend on the local council I expect.
I got a parking ticket for the same thing in Norwich.

In MK, in places like you pictured there, in the centre m/c's are tolerated. I say that as they aren't specifically allowed but the traffic wardens don't do them.

Whether it's the same in York you would be better talking to a local.

Just park it 100 yards down the road infront of Infinity motorcycles where all the others park, there's even motorcycle parking down the side with a huge metal bar to lock your bike to. P

Technically it's parking on the pavement, which is not allowed. But as mentioned, local wardens may be lenient, depending on area.

I have heard a story recently where someone regularly parked like that though and was ok for ages, then one day someone (member of the public) must have complained and local authority / wardens had to act on complaint and they ticketed the motorbikes.

I park in a cycle bay in Central London.

I think it is private land so is technically legal as there is no regulation against this.

In London it's prohibited by default.

Elsewhere it's allowed by default unless specifically prohibited.

All normal parking regulations apply to the edge of the highway though. If that's a double yellowed / no waiting road, then it applies to both the carriageway and the footway.

Yup, I got hit with that in Glasgow. Parked on the "footway" in a corner area on the way from nowhere to nowhere, not blocking, obstructing or inconveniencing anyone. I asked a Blue Meanie, and was told "I wouldn't ticket you there, you'd have to be a right cunt to do it."

Later, a right cunt did it. Crying or Very sad

There's quite a lot of pavement where it looks like it's part of the "highway" but is actually a continuation of the pavement surface onto private land. Some cycle parking is tucked into these areas. Not sure if councils know they're surfacing someone elses property or if it's ever an issue. Worth checking official boundaires if you do ever get a ticket though.

This was in York town centre on Saturday afternoon.

Your Council site

Quote:
Bicycle racks

Motorcycles and mopeds re not permitted to park in bicycle racks anywhere in the city.

So a simple search provides the answer.

But did you actually see the guy touch your bike. Seems far more likely that someone removing their pushbike caused the alarm to go off. Given how close you are to

Oh and DO NOT PARK in the Castle car park. even if you buy a ticket. Motorbikes are prohibited......

Find a tradffic warden and ask them?

I tried asking DBMC's enquiry office. They didnt even know there were any motorcycle bays in the metropolitan borough. They gave me several different leflets showing me where i can pay for parking and where disabled parking bays are but none of them showed motorcycle bays.

Asking warden 33, who was a nice polite guy but didn't want to be identified by any other handle, i learned the location of every motorcycle bay in the centre, which council cctv cameras were any good, and that i could park pretty much anywhere so long as it wasnt blocking a pavement so that wheelchairs couldn't get past, in a disabled bay, or on double yellows, and not to pay at any council meter. Much encouragement to use bicycle parking as the cyclists dont use it and there's way too much.

I think the thriving metropolis that is Doncaster is accidentally really motorcycle friendly.

There's stacks of legit parking in York. Lord Mayor's Walk, behind Sainsbury's on Bootham, Car park on Stonebow, opposite Infinity (see above).

Not to mention you can park in any resident bay. And given that half the space within the walls is residential, and it takes about a 10 minute brisk walk to get from one side of the city to the other, you shouldn't have a problem...
