I don't want to ask my landlord agency because then they would know I am moving out before I want them to know but is it likely they would mind letting me move out on a random date e.g. 4th of the month rather than the end of a month?

This is a proper letting agent I will be dealing with and ideally I want to have a few days extra to sort stuff out etc.

They much prefer you to move out on your rent payment date, but certainly with the agency I used to rent through it was possible to pay pro-rata for the extra few days, as long as they had a month's notice.

I've negotiated with the landlord/agent in the past, re: move-out dates. In some cases I haven't been asked to serve all my notice because the landlord has had someone lined up who was keen to move in ASAP.

Artist gives landlord 3 months notice. Landlord puts house on market. New tenants love the gaff and want it now. Landlord serves 1 month notice to Artist, forcing him out before he's ready.

I'm sure most landlords would never do the above. But if yours did, you'd feel like a right tool for giving him the opportunity. No good deed goes unpunished.

I don't want my landlord thinking anything until I know for sure I am moving out when I say. I only have to give 1 months notice and the landlord agency has been a right PITA during the last renewal so not going to give them any slack the overcharging bastards. £60 fee's for doing fuckall etc.

When I have confirmed my move out date I will tell them and go from there. I just might want a few extra days is all and wanted to see if it was standard practice.

Why would the date matter? Just pro-rata the month's rent, so if you're paying 800pcm on the 1st and move out on the 14th, 400 cover's the 2 weeks you rented.

As above though, check your tenancy agreement. It'll rarely (never) round-up in your favour unless it's in the landlord's interest for it to.

Yeah I mean that makes sense but I just wanted to see if it was a common thing or not.

As others have already said, read your tenancy agreement, it will state it in there. Those are the terms you signed, those are the terms both sides stick to.

Also, if you are on an AST, or periodic tenancy (after the initial term) you give 1 months notice, the landlord must give 2 months by serving a S21 notice.

If they've been messing you around, you might want to check that your deposit has been properly protected. Would be a very useful bargaining chip if it's not in order...
