I don't really know how to put this, so here's my best hamfisted effort.
Since I lobbed the NSR across a car park, I've been riding it less - I don't think my riding ability's gone downhill, quite the opposite in fact. But for some reason, my enthusiasm for bikes has gone downhill a great deal. I'd rather be inside than on the bike, especially in this weather, and with no faith in the NSR's reliability, I can't take it anywhere.
Cleaning it is a bitch and riding it sometimes feels a chore, and this is a U turn on my feelings about bikes in general to the point that it's worrying me. Is there any reason I seem to be losing interest? Am I really getting bored of bikes, or is this just something that I'll get over once the bike's been serviced and the weather picks up?
I hope it's the latter, as riding is still something very precious to me, and I'd hate to think that eventually I might stop enjoying it . ____________________ https://www.bikepics.com/members/nsrandy/96rs250/ My Bike!

I would put it down to the weather and the recent little spill making you feel glum and down, get bike serviced and await some fine weather then go impress the ladies |

Andy, I didn't have a crisis as such but a couple of weeks ago I was getting frustrated with having a moped, it was horrible I got loads of abuse and it was really poor.
But since my fantastic rideout yesterday I realise why I did buy a bike, even if it is a moped.
My advice is plan a really big rideout, either by yourself or with mates and make sure it is sunny, you will come home happy and your faith in bikes will be restored. ____________________ Be careful whose advice you buy, but, be patient with those who supply it. Advice is a form of nostalgia, dispensing it is a way of fishing the past from the disposal, wiping it off, painting over the ugly parts and recycling it for more than it?s worth. |

I think everyone feels as you do every now and then. Put the bike away somewhere dry and go fishing you will feel better soon and want the bike again. Keep smiling ____________________ Here comes the summer! |

I went out on a little booze cruise to Rotherham earlier, I got as far as the end of the main road near my house before deciding it was crap.
As the ride went on, my mood got worse as i became stuck behind a racing pigeon truck . I went along, usually in high gears as I'm currently worried about the NSR's piston leaping out through the top of the engine, and eventually the spray got so bad i couldn't see a damn thing. Every time i braked or changed direction, the rear would slide around like i was riding on bloody marbles. Eventually I got into Rotherham, rode around a bit, still suffering from spray - raising my visor made no odds, I just got a face full of it. Eventually I got to where I was going and had a little break.
On my way back, I noticed that the back was still sliding around like I was riding on an oil slick, but my mood was getting better. I got back onto the main road up out of Rotherham, still below the speed limits (speeding in these conditions seemed a bit unacceptable). I got up to Kimberworth, and rode down the other side. It was only once I was over the motorway and down into Chapeltown that I was enjoying myself - I looked at the view out of my helmet and realised, almost as if i'd forgotten, how lucky I am. Crap weather or not, I was perched ontop of my own bike, and an NSR no less - most kids would do anything for one (well most lads round here anyway, which is why I keep it locked up). I smiled in spite of myself and decided to enjoy the ride, instead of hating it. I decided to give the "chapsenkurve" a go, carefully following my favourite line through the corners, almost touching the kerb on one side then almost touching (but not crossing) the center line. I got over the top of the hill about a foot from the center line and discovered a van in the middle of the road that had swerved to avoid a parked car. The road surface was good, but only as good as it's possible to be when it's covered in oil - bollocks. I managed to haul the bike to the side of the road while this van eventually went and missed my bike by a reasonable margin - about 3 foot. I breathed a sigh of relief, and then carried on enjoying what was left of that part of the road. I came up to the roundabout, past the pub (with loads of patient people waiting to get inside), went past in a low gear, and screamed through first and second, into third, before slowing down.
I turned up the main road to my house, again through the gears. It was murky and muggy, but at last I was enjoying myself. I managed to get home in short order, and parked the bike up.
I lit a fag, as soon as I parked up, and looked at myself in damp leathers, noting the wet crap and sludge all over the bike, and grinned.
I guess it is all about state of mind after all

I realise i'm running the risk of sounding like an old git here but here goes..... Stick with it, everything gets crap from time to time for a variety of reasons but just hang on, we've all felt like that at some time. 'When I were a lad' I had an RD 125 lc, the NSR of it's day, and no matter how well I looked after it I knew it would sieze (but I didn't know when). I knew it would throw a ring (but I didn't know when). I knew the electrics would fail (but..etc). This doesn't make for confident , fun riding. It will get better. A few years down the line I can afford to ride and insure what I want, and thanks to biking life is still a ball, it has given me a life better than I could have imagined, and friends better than I ever deserved. Quit now, and big, reliable, fast bikes are beyond you. Put up with the crap, pay your dues (as we all have), and the world is yours. Incedently, roughly where abouts are you, I'm riding up to Swinton this W/E to visit my family and friends. All my time is spoken for, but I'll let you know next time I'm up there and we could hook up if you're up for a ride. I know the roads up there well, and my first crash was outside the George and Dragon in Wentworth. ____________________ I was only doing what it said on my licence officer....

im sort of getting that nsr kid, but i think its purely because i have no one to ride with, me and my best friend alex didnt even like bikes until i got a moped, then a dt50 then a ts125x, then when he saw my ts125x he got an xlr125 and we've been hooked eversince !
Altho he kinda ruined it for me , he got caught drink driving on his xlr125 got 50 quid fine and 12 months ban waiting for him to get off.
Thats the only thing getting me down, i have no one to ride with, and i dotn really know the bike scene near me, i know there is one meet called hunters lodge, but i dont know anyone, and its hard making convo |

Well, i think its a combination of a "crap" bike, i say crap becasue after you pass your test you can have access to a proper bike . Im not saying the nsr is bad, its does what it is supposed to do: be a fun/good bike for a learner. There are plenty of better bikes around...
and the weather is not too great. I am not a fair weather rider, but i dont go riding out for fun in the rain. If i HAVE to go anywhere, obviously i ll use the bike, doesnt really bother me.
I recon if you had the choice of a car or a bike, on a nice day the bike would win hands down. So it will not get any more fun on our roads than by using a bike. Not saying cars are not fun, just i have to spend loads to get a half decent, fun, car. I already have performance to match a car of such performance, and i only paid 1300 for it.
Yes you are luckey, remember that. |
