Hiya,
Since getting my bike I've noticed there seems to be a universal friend thing going on with all bikers....From the nod to biker cafes to the mechanic who fixed my bike for nothing Very Happy . Personally I think its great but what causes it (and I know there will be arseholes on bikes but you get wankers every where). Is it cos we are big kids.

Good question.

Maybes it goes back to days when we were all classed as outcasts from 'normal' society, and so we all stuck together.

We all have a common link.

Generally we try to judge people by the way we find them, instead of automatically stereotyping on first appearances.

Bikers often have an apathy with other bikers because we have been in a similar situation, or we hope that if ever we are down somebody will come and help out.

Bikes naturally attract friendly people.

Or it might be as they said in the 70s "You meet the nicest people on a Honda"

To be honest I don't think all bikers are great ppl, they're just generally great to other bikers. Probably because it's easy to identify a biker. All Britney Spears fans could be fantastic to other Britney Spears fans, but how would they identify each other. We're easy as we ride around on a bike, and wear the kit or carry it with us wherever we go, and most of the good nature happens when we're out on the road or on our bikes.

Apologies for the lame analogy, all I could think of.

It's the "I'm in a club" thing

Same happens in any specialist group i.e. 4x4 owners, Lotus Owners, Bikers etc...

You all tend to be nicer to each other because they are one of your club and it could be you on day.

You sure about that Robin? (Just seeing as apathy does mean indifference...)

One thing i've noticed is when i'm on a bike i'm a lot calmer... just got a car after being without one since january and noticed i do a lot more cursing when in a car due to idiots but when i'm on a bike i just don't get worked up, so makes for a friendier me, lol

Maybe it's the 'fresh' air, or the diesel fumes i'm breathing in calms me down Razz

I think its cool!

I've been a car driver for years, and have only been riding for a couple of weeks, but really like the nod!

With so many arseholes on the road,it's nice to see other motorist showing a bit of respect, encouragement, approval, acknowledgement, or what ever your nod means.

It is a great feeling being part of something. The nod rocks, it truly does. The other day, a biker in full race leathers and a big bike (didn't have time to see what sort but it was big and shiny!) gave me a proper nice nod, and there was me on my little NSR with L plates on. Laughing

The closest I've come to getting the same feeling was when I drove a very rare car (a FIAT 126) and I think I saw 3 others in the 2 years that I had mine, receiving nice waves and a toot of the horn.

But the biker nod is much better, and I know that if my NSR ever breaks down it will be a biker that stops to help me rather than a car driver (unless they are a biker too!) Smile

I love the biker nod.

I've been driving for a couple of years until my friend at work DaFrostyOne non stop talked about bikes. So I thought i'd give it a try (always liked the idea of bikes, but never really got around to it) I soon got hooked. 3 months later I've got my own bike Laughing

On the 3rd day of having it, it stalled in the middle of 2 hills and the first biker that came past stopped and helped. You'd never get that in a car Thumbs Up
