Ok, so I've found the Hartside (which was closed when I went by - are they seasonal up there?), and The Filling Station in Keswick, but I know there are others around up here. It's a great help in encouraging me to actually get out in this cold but sunny and dry weather if I know there are places to stop for a coffee and a warm up on my route. What others are worth heading for? I'm thinking southern Scotland, and down to about Teesdale-ish.

P.S. Anyone headed to any tomorrow?

once you go north of the border there are very few biker cafes; as such;

they tend to be cafes that welcome any trade what so ever..

nice one.. one of the best ....at Jedburgh Woollen Mill, Bankend North, Edinburgh Road, Jedburgh, The Scottish Borders TD8 6EB

that will do for now... Thumbs Up

Probably a bit far east for a nightly jaunt, but Golden Lion in St John's Chapel on a Wednesday night (a bit further on from Alston) they do/did £1 burgers.

Manor cafe near Leyburn north Yorkshire.

Pit stop diner Stockton on a Tuesday night.

Some meets in Newcastle area (Washington wetlands, South shields Zetlands) often burger vans and crap there.

Most will be starting up next month or April I expect.

As for the old bloke thing...yeah true dat!

Yeah, I've stopped there a couple of times for coffee.

Look, it's unimportant to me what others think about 'biker' cafes and meets. Fact is, I've moved to somewhere where I don't know anyone, and would like to get hooked up with people who share my interest, and that means bikes. I can only get so much out of of a forum where I never actually get to meet anyone. Ol' Retard there doesn't have any social skills anyway, so wouldn't be interested, and anyway, would probably be too embarrassed to meet anyone off of here after all the shite he comes out with.

I thought all you northern lot were supposed to be 'ard as nails? You gonna let a soft southern pansy show you up? Razz

Ah yeah, I thought there was something out Hexham way. I did most of that route a little while back, but didn't go out quite as far as Jedburgh. Will definitely do it some more. Toying with the idea of a run down to Middleton tomorrow, but might just wind up in Keswick again Laughing

T o be fair, it does look like it'll be a couple of degrees milder over here in the west, and I have been avoiding the higher roads a bit while temperatures are quite this low.

Just cant be arsed to clean the bugger after riding. The amount of salt on the road round here lately should be criminal.

I was starting to get a bit like that myself, but feck it, it's ACF'd up to the eyeballs, and I just make sure I give the chain a good clean and re-lube after each ride. Besides, the Striple is starting to get into my blood, can't resist it! Plus, I've got feck-all else to do. Rain forecast for Monday, so won't be riding then.

That's why I bought another bike, my DRZ's frame would disintegrate with all the salt. I might pop out to Hartside on the Hornet tomorrow, highs of 4c it would be rude not to Thumbs Up

Do you reckon the roads up there will be ice-free? That's all I need to go anywhere really. In the Lakes there is still some run-off across the roads, just concerned not to be hitting that if the temperatures do drop.

It seems to shrink back to the side quite quickly now if there's any sun or traffic+salt.
The roads are basically dry because humidity has been low as well as not rainy for a few days.
But as you know there are a lot of minor drainage issues where things have blocked up over winter, so you can't rule out suddenly coming on ice perhaps inches thick on back roads.
