Pradva Yoof program shows shouty instructors, and Generation Snowflake decides it's not for them. Crying or Very sad

What's next, no marching up and down the square? Laughing

How will they feel about getting shot at then? Hipster soldiers?

Violated.

The military needs to provide a Safe Space for combatants. Folded arms

I started watching that half-hour TV show embedded in the article.

Funnily enough, I don't think I'd make it for a different reason. I'd be that annoying 'ideological' guy who refuses to swear allegiance to god and the queen.

Anyway, on topic... if they can't handle a bit of faux-outrage from their instructors, they really shouldn't be there.

If you can't put up with 14 weeks of being verbally and mentally abused (I don't think they can hit you like they used to), then you don't have any place in the Army IMO.

Basic training is meant to suck and be shit, you just keep your head down and grind away till you come out the other side.

True, but they're already down on their quota of bullet-sponges, and they also serve who stand and whinge.

Interesting that they're running a "Don't join the army" marketing campaign, when that's exactly what's happening. Actually, I've just heard it running it on Classic Geezer Rock which seems hilariously off target.

Perhaps they'd get more recruits if they were signing up to actually defend the UK. Thinking

Ask an average squaddie how they would fix Calais if they were allowed to, they're still pretty pissed about Rigby.

Shouty shouty is a bit of a wasted exercise in "break them down and build them up", intended more for conscripts on a 4 week training course. If the Army needs to scream, shout and abuse you to make you do the job, you probably aren't what they need anyway. Afterall, when the shouting stops, you might stop doing. Notice that in units like the SAS and SBS they just ask you to do stuff in a normal voice. You don't want to do? Ok, bye.

True, and if they could turf out the slackers, mongs and lippy entitled gobshites, I'm sure they'd do so.

But they're begging for recruits, so they can't be too choosy about who they let through training. They're doing the best they can with what they have to work with.

I'm not up to date with Navy and RAF recruitment - are they as badly off?

Speaking for the Navy, recruitment isn't really a problem. Retention is.

I would be more worried about some Eton educated toff sending me off to some pointless war to get my legs blown off than getting sworn at.

I wouldn't know about that. Being in the Navy I am more likely to get something else blown when visiting places like Canada.
