Hi all,

The other week the other half was on a traffic light controlled roundabout, in the correct lane. She was first in the queue, so as her light went green, she went.

Then she got hit from the left at some speed by what looked like to her a car from a local taxi company... he didn't hang about and just left the scene.

(My guess is he's ran a red)

Like the wolly she is she panicked and drove it down the road out the way and called me crying her eyes out rather than looking or asking witnesses.. I guess her mind wasn't in the right place! It was after 9am so plenty of people were about. Done the usual facebook appeals in the local area, turns out the roundabout is quite renowned for crashes! Also rang the suspected taxi company a few times asking any incidents reported to which they conveniently said no..

Anyway, she went straight to the police station, reported it all, crime number off you pop. They said they would investigate (Laughing) no CCTV on the roundabout.

She also went to hospital to get checked over (driven by a family member!) she had light tissue damage to her shoulder and had 2 days off work just to rest it really.

---- Gap in time of about 1.5 weeks up to today -----

Her car has taken a hit on the left nose quite badly (2006 Peugeot 206) and today had a dealership check it over (where she works) and they've said it's a write off.

Obviously up to this point she hasn't told insurance because there's no need. If it could be fixed by some parts at the scrappy that would be job done. But apparently it's a 'write-off' and that's all I'm being told Laughing women.

So... what do?

I've seen there's the MIB thing you can claim off from uninsured / hit and run drivers but they all need you to notify your insurance. I was thinking it's best to avoid this in her first year of driving as she will only pay the price for something not her fault for the next 5 years - I could be wrong though? (206 worth about £1k)

So now she has to buy a new car and be completely out of pocket just because of some fuckface driving off?

What's best to do with the 206, technically because nothings been said to the insurers, will some vehicle repair bloke buy it fix it and then sell it like it's never been in an accident making £££ ?

Cheers guys!!

Thumbs Up

Pretty much. You could go down the untraced driver route...

https://www.mib.org.uk/making-a-claim/claiming-against-an-untraced-driver/untraced-drivers-agreements/

...but it's pretty clear that they're only doing it because they "have" to, there's a £300 excess, and as you noted that's an accident to declare.

Sorry.

Cheers Rog. I didn't notice that excess crikey.

Shame things have to go that way, really unfair. I guess that's life!

Could she potentially sell her 206 as gold-dust to some chump who wants to repair it then as it's not been recorded? Hopefully be able to get a better price for it than just pure scrap..

Cheers. Thumbs Up

Sure, especially if it's still drivable. Definitely keep it under the insurance radar.

You know for certain it was the local taxi company?

Can you just start a claim against them?

Makes you wonder if there's anything dodgy at the taxi company insurance or licence wise...

She's pretty sure due to a distinct green stripe and it was white. But I'm not from her ends and wasn't there so no idea.

Oh yeah, there definitely dodgy alright. They have a known reputation in the area for damaging peoples cars and forgetting to leave notes. Funnily enough the owner/manager got really defensive and twatty with her when she went there to have a look.

Her family have been up to have a look at their fleet (if they were stupid enough to leave it on show) because I imagine the front of their taxi was pretty hurt. But they didn't see anything unfortunately. Bastards.

This is what I keep saying.

Apparently her work have told her 'It's fucked' and 'A write-off' but I don't know what's involved. I think it needs to go somewhere else to be seen what actually needs replacing or if it really is fucked.

I know the passenger side door doesn't want to open. Big dent on the wing, headlight is smashed up, some bumper and trim fell off. I wonder if the garage found something structural on the chassis or something.

Cheers Thumbs Up

Get it somewhere else. i.e. a proper acccident repair place rather than a garage. A beat local panel beaters would have the door sorted with a length of 2 x 4 and a crate of Stella. Thumbs Up

Main dealer, independent, or panel beater?

I went to a local main dealer for a service today and my car caught fire on the way home. Me thinks the apprentice will only be getting a pass for bodging that oil filter on.

We tried to trace a taxi that reveresed into our car in a hospital car park, Police chased taxi company down for details an said they dont record where taxis drop off only where they pick up from - an how many silver vectra's do we have working for us

Tried to claim through MIB an was told we need the other cars details to persue uninsured claim

we had to pay for the damage ourselves

Should license, tax, and force them to show number plates so they can't just leave after damaging a car!!

Oh yeah. That's just bicycles.

As you were.

I had a 306 which ended up like this because snow

Had it looked at and the frame was bent.

Advertised it as a write off and still sold it for a couple of hundred to some Polish lads.

Think I lost about £500 overall.

If the door won't open easily, unless it's just catching on the back end of the shoved-about wing, there's some proper damage somewhere Sad

A bit bolting-the-door-after-the-horse-has-bolted, but maybe time to buy a dashcam?

I need an indicator stalk for a 206 so before you scrap, let me pillage it for parts.

That said, it probably isn't worth fixing but I'm still quite a fan of basic dash cams. Would help in this position with hindsight Sad

Does she recall what sort of damage the car that drove off had? If it hit the 206 hard enough to write it off, potentially distorting the structure, one would have thought the other vehicle would have some sort of non-negligable damage.

If the police were really on the ball they could have visited local bodyshops to try and catch it being repaired, but it might be a bit late for that now.

Is it also possible that she crashed her car herself? And is too proud to tell you? So made up an imaginary car that hit her that hard to write her car off, but still drove off immediately?

Yeah, was a stealership. Going to try and get a panel beaters opinion this weekend.

I know Vincent, so many taxi's drive badly considering it's their job. Ceases to amaze me. I tend to stay clear of them or overtake if I can. Thumbs Up

Well, all she knows is it will be it's right hand side front area. I expect it must have done some damage, as her car has a big white paint mark in the dent from it.

@ Lihp, no chance she crashed it herself lol. I heard genuine tears. Plus she would have just told me as it's got a couple of dings anyway. If she managed that from a prang or parking fuckup I'd be impressed. Laughing She's clearly been hit mate.

Update from the Police is that they are actually 'investigating' and the taxi company have to reply or something. Granted that means nothing, but hey.

I've just received this from the postman:

https://i1145.photobucket.com/albums/o520/bikerrtomm/20160309_195106_zpskxatleta.jpg

Finally sorted me out with a mobius dashcam!
