https://www.gumtree.com/p/honda-motorbikes/-road-registered-honda-msx-125-2013-/1158673293

saw this pop up. 14miles away sounded pretty good. Not quite too good to be true, but a couple of hundred pounds under asking price.

The seller is not in the UK and wants to use an ESCROW service. alarm bells start ringing. CAPauto seems to at least exist as a company. ESCROW services I believe are a FCA regulated product, but am unable to find a reference telling me they are regulated by the FCA.
Is anyone able to convince me it's not a scam?

Quote:

Hi, The company can deliver the bike to your address as they are based in Edinburgh. Escrow is a known service, but maybe not for everybody. It's when a third party have to handle a transaction for you, I left the bike with all documentation signed and you will have to transfer the full payment amount in their escrow account which is secured and they will hold it. I understand your concerns of not seeing the bike in real, but you will have 5 days of inspection before you make your decision. Until then the money will be kept in the company's account. After having your decision the company will either pay me if you say yes or give you full refund in less than 24 hrs if you say no. This way the company can protect both of us, you by providing you a technical inspection carried out by them and offering those 5 days of inspection on your own, and me by holding the payment safe until your decision and assuring me the bike will be safe. Please send me your full name, delivery address and phone number I will pass it to the agent, he will contact you, issue an invoice, order a technical inspection and send them to your email. This is the transaction number: CA200124, designated agent name: Tom. Company website: www.capauto-united-kingdom.czechian.net email: info@capauto-united-kingdom.itmsgi.info Thanks, Elle

First impression was it's stolen; too cheap and lack of license plates in photos.

The sellers reply screams scam, it's a pretty standard scam.
Seller isn't in country so sale has to be made via a pretty much untraceable means.
If you question the seller again they will offer to accept a "deposit" with the rest upon receipt of the bike.
The bike will near appear, the seller with vanish and you'll be damn lucky to get any of the money back.

I have 3 magic beans that each will grow into a random colour scheme of MSX.

£1000 in bitcoins and they are yours.

There was a white msx the other day for around the same money, i emailed to enquire and got more or less the same tosh.
I reported the advert and it was removed swiftly.

Im actually looking to buy an msx but the prices people are asking are crazy, dont know if there selling at them prices or not but there is no chance i would be paying 2300-2500 for a 2 year old bike with 1-5k on the clock when a local honda dealer is knocking them out for £2500 brand new.

Are people actually getting that sort of money for them or are they just sitting there unsold?
Either way ill hold out for a cheapie as the new model will be out soon and that should drive the price down a little (i hope).

I'm certain it's a scam to. I'm just a little confused as to how it works.

I'm also alarmed as this quite sophisticated compared to the usual shit.

Well thats good to hear!
Im not being a tight git or anything but most people seem to be asking brand new money for a bike thats used and out of warranty, absolute madness.

I have daily updates firing me an email to anything that is remotely close. I'm not sure how they are holding their value so well. If I find one that's local enough, I'll put a cheeky offer in and hope that there is no other interest and they are desperate to sell.

The two things may not be entirely unrelated.

There's one lives round the corner from me under a cover. It hasn't moved since December. Gumtree, eBay, it's only a matter of time. Drooling

didn't think to check the streetview.

I've asked the seller to deliver the bike to me so I can test ride it. I've also asked for the company number and asked if they are FCA regulated.
I've also asked for a picture of 'elle' with the V5C.

"AUTO SPHERE BODY REPAIRS LIMITED" is run by "SOMAROUTHU, Venkata Raja Sekhar" which is more like what I'd expect. Wink

Where is "nira" even claiming that the bike is? London? Edinburgh? Bangalore? Laughing

I'm hoping my one will make to BCF BBQ (if I get one). Think I would rather do it on the MSX than the CBR250 not that the gixxer has gone.

You'll never hear from them again once you've paid the invoice. I'd expect them to want paying by Western Union or maybe by BACS into a phished UK bank account.
