got 16yr old son a speedfight 2, he took the battery off to charge it, now has been told that he needs the red key ( which i did not get) to reset the immobilizer, is this correct, if so what can be done without the red key

I would highly doubt it.

Typical immobiliser setup:
- ECU has a code it wants to read from a key. If the key doesn't have the code, the bike doesn't start
- Red key has a code that says to the ECU "ok, send the code you want to the next key put in the bike", allowing you to program new keys
- Black keys have the normal code and just gives it to the ECU to start the bike

I would find it highly unlikely that removing the battery would alter the state of the ECU as to tell it to refuse to start without the red key being inserted.

The manufacturer would have had to explicitly decide to do so, because they can't wipe the old keys. I find that unlikely because that means if your battery was to die whilst out riding, you'd be unable to get home without the red key (which nobody carries!)

Can you not try it?

Could take off the ECU and take it to a Peugeot Dealer to get another RED key cut also take other key, Like JM said would of thought it should recognize the key even after battery came off.Not sure how much that would cost. An option because of cost would be .E-bay
Chip Key Bypass, Fits Peugeot Speedfight 2 CDI Immobiliser ACI100 ACI100.01
Removes Immobilizer on Speed Fight Scooters No Limiter.
But then you`ve lost protection for maybe a few pounds less, Give Peugeot a call I`m sure they will be helpful
