Hello last nite I got bored so I went and picked my mate up and we went for a nice night ride, Apart from one thing,, going down the a36? doing about 70 see forward facing camera and think bugger it its forward facing what harm can it do. Well went through it and boy did I regret it I had to pull over and stop both me and my mate were blinded Shocked Shocked I know I shouldnt have been speeding but that thing could have made me crash. Has anyone else had this Coz I think they are dangerous

Of course, if you hadn't been speeding it wouldn't have flashed!

I've posted this somewhere else, but forward facing cameras only use a flash in low lighting conditions and they use a magenta flash not white. This is so that it doesn't blind the driver but suffceintly illumates the scene to establish number plate (assuming it was a car)

So were you sitting backwards on the bike?

<pedantic mode> Forward facing cameras would face your rear, pointing forward... I think you mean rearward facing! /me giggles. </pedantic mode>

Remember kids, bikes aren't like lego. You can't easily take a part from one bike and then fit it to another.

I know somebody who got flashed by one and was sure he got away with it until somebody pointed out that on the front of his fairing was signwritten an advert for his business.

"For all your auto needs phone Mr xxxx" and his telephone number.

I never did find out if he got done.

When I used to instruct, we were working on CBT one hot Saturday and when it was over several of us went out riding very fast on some of the surrounding country roads. We had a great time.

Until we got back to base, where our boss told us that the police had called to say that if we wanted to go racing around the countryside, it would be advisable to take off our yellow bibs with the name and phone number of the training school on them.

We didn't get done for it though, because our boss "couldn't remember" which of us had gone riding after work!

Remember though, if it is taking pictures, then they are going to have a whole load of you.

All they'd need to do is pass the pictures to some local police or similar and you might find yourself at best 'victimised'.

If enough of you numpties carry on riding through cameras deliberately, then they'll just go turn them all round so that they can catch ALL vehicles.. it's soo obvious that they'll do that, they have in Portsmouth allready so why bother racing through cameras just because you think you won't get caught Question Rolling Eyes

The front facing ones don't flash. Even the low-light flash has not been allowed onto british roads because it is undoubtedly a distraction. They are supposed to use infrared to illuminate at night. The rules of play also say that they can't track you down if they only get a partial plate or no plate. What they do do is wait for a few pics to establish a pattern, maybe a work-route etc, then st a talivan a few yards behind the camera, can't escape that can ya? Very Happy

I didn't know that, but to add to this a lot of people are confused by what appears to be a flash from the truvelos as their headlights reflect briefly against the lense aimed at catching them.

Sounds like a decoy camera to me. Extra flash just make people feel bad and to give maximum effect.
