Me and my friend built a 2001 Kawasaki Eliminator 125 that was sitting in his closet.
I will now sound like a kardashian trying to explain car problems. I have looked through my maintenance book and came up with no answers.
We have the stock carb, but foolishly put on a pod filter. This messed up the tuning and we blindly started drilling jets. On top of this, most internals are stock and haven't been replaced. The exhaust is also aftermarket and the baffle is taken out. It seems with the pod filter, any back pressure other than a straight pipe causes the bike to not even turn over.
So to all the running issues:
Poor idle, wont run off of choke, runs extremely lean, completely loses power at throttle positions(guess its tuning and fact we have a pod filter on and), bogs down while riding unless you upshift, and float bowl overflows when you upright the bike sometimes (ill guess the last 2 are due to bad float adjust and its not getting enough gas), and the petcock only works on prime.
With that being said, I plan on switching over to a new KOSO carb, making a airbox of sorts, a rebuild kit for the petcock, and progressively/systematically tuning the carb (not blindly drilling). Am I on the right track?
-A lot of important parts have been chopped off and bypassed (such as most lighting, speedometer, etc) and I have some questions about things my friend plugged and patched.
The first picture is of some blue cap over a nipple between the carb and the engine. What does it do and is it important?https://s27.postimg.org/ag3p1v9w3/intake_thingy.jpg
Next is what I assume is the reed valve system. I have some homework to do as to how it works and what it does, but he has the pipe at the end of the system plugged off. Is this bad and will it affect running?

Next is of some sort of vent on top of the cylinder head. It is open towards the center of the bike. Does it need a filter over it?
