So I'm thinking I might just go on a whim leaving Saturday morning, afternoon in Paris, watch the game, then back on Sunday morning, home in time for the Moto GP season opener. (match tickets are still available)

Thing is, none of the hotels near the Gare du Nord (easy for getting to Stade de France) have .private parking. So I'm looking at £30 for the chunnel, probably 3 tanks of fuel (£60), and about £30 for 24 hr parking. £120 ..... eurostar will only cost £200 and I can get some pre game beers in!

Choices

Anyone know if there is free bike parking around in paris? Also anyone ridden in Paris ? I've been enough times and can't say riding in the city is really appealing.

How long does the ride from Calais take? Also is it hell getting back out in the tunnel at the minute with the refugee camps at the port?

hotelF1 Saint Denis Stade has parking round the back and is a 5 minute walk from the stadium. One person on a bike, even if the carpark is full you should be able to slot it in somewhere. Beyond that have a look at the F1 to the north - hotelF1 Saint Denis Centre Basilique. It also has parking but is in a quieter, less central location. Plenty of parking out on the street at this one and you could walk to the stadium in about 30-40 minutes.

Calais to central Paris, if you avoid the toll roads, factor in about 4 hours with rest breaks and fuel stops.

Riding in Paris first time is an experience not for the feint hearted. If you are confident you should be ok but my advice would be don't try to ride like the locals, just take your time. Also would not attempt it without a sat-nav.

You can park pretty much anywhere in Paris, find a bit of empty pavement near a metro station and lock it up there and jump on the metro.

Tolls are about 13 euros each way, using the nationals will turn a 3hr journey into 5. use the tolls.

No issues at all getting to or from the tunnel, unless they've set fire to something on the motorway, it doesn't happen much these days.

cheers folks

Took the chunnel no delays at either end. About 3 hrs Calais to Paris on the autoroute. Stayed in St Denis. Shitty area but just off the motorway so no driving through paris hell, next to the stadium and a metro ride into town. Awesome match, just under 500 miles of riding, good weekend.

Note to rugby fans - they only sell non-alcoholic beer (at 7 euros a pop!) inside the stadium!!! You have to get your drink on at the bars just outside the ground
