I've just spoken to RMT where I did CBT, and they don't offer tuition for a couple of hours. It's a full or half day only. Is this normal?

I'd like to learn a little more on my 125 before starting on the 500, but I can't justify spending the money for a whole day. I just want to learn to pass my test over a few lessons like a car driver would. I have limited time as it is.

Do training centres not offer this service, or is it just RMT? They also said it would cost the same wether I used my bike or theirs. Surely it should be cheaper on my own bike?

Can anyone recommend somewhere in south Birmingham/Sutton Coldfield area?

I'm in the midlands and was told:

"Its £125 per day, full days only, no discount for using your own bike & gear, you will need about 3 days training followed by £80 to do your test."

My response:

"What the fuck! i wont need 3 days training, ive been riding for a year! no discount for using my own bike?! and £80 to do the fucking test!? its only £48 with the DSA"

Their response:

"well its £80 because we take you out riding for an hour before hand and its to cover the rental of the bike during the test. and we are the only training place for miles around, so either like it or lump it!"

My response:

1 hours practising by myself for a week before my test (£48), followed by a first time pass with 1 minor.

With ripoff training school:
3 x £125 + £80 = £455

MY way: £48

training schools are a fucking ripoff! you are better off getting someone who knows what they are doing to teach you what to do, then have a few stabs at your test. i would have had to fail mine 10 times before i started to spend more than the training center wanted!

I did mine over at the Wheels Go-kart track near Aston Waterlinks/ old Carnell. It's now owned by BSM but I believe it's the same lads that were from the previous school who were very good. Thumbs Up

Not sure if they do the sort of lessons you're looking for though. You could give them a call to find out.

To be honest you might find it easier to ride one of the school bikes if you have an NSR. U-turns are easier on a commuter and you won't damage your own bike if you drop it.

Thanks for the links and info guys. I might just learn by myself, using the guidelines in the submissions forum, then take my test when I feel confident. It seems to be worth it. If I fail, at least I'll know what to work on. And as Frosty said, I'd have to fail about ten times before it would have been wiser to take lessons. The only problem though is learning on a 500. I guess I'll have to book lessons for that. Or just get a restricted licence.

Cheers Thumbs Up

Fast Trak in Great Barr do the course I'm after. Two hour lessons are £50, test also £50. Seems to be a better deal to me. I'll still stick to the 500cc lessons only plan though I think Wink Can't be arsed to wait 2 years Mr. Green
