Hello everyone. Hoping there's some decent electrically minded folk on here.

My issue is as titled. Every few miles the ignition fuse will blow. The bike is stranded at the other half's house with no tools (until I get back there).

I've very little idea as to where to start looking on this bike. Would appreciate any advise on probable culrpits. Wish it was blowing instantly as ay least I could find the fault more easily.

Thanks everyone. [/b][/list]

Have a look for chafed insulation on the loom especially where it routes past the headstock. Thumbs Up

Take off the tank and simply look around the wires for any chafing or any exposed inner wire cores.

Look especially where wires move like near the headstock. If you're lucky you'll find some charring which will lead you right to it. Or even some tape which has fallen off around some of the loom.

My NTV did this several times. Nobody thought it would pass the MOT. It went for an MOT and passed much to everybody's surprise.

It then caught fire, it did that a fair few times. Laughing

Check the kill switch on the right hand switch gear cluster. I had a short inside with one of my old ntvs that kept blowing fuses.

As mentioned around the head stock, look for a live wire with a bullet type connection mines had chafed its way through.

Fuel pump contacts also like to corrode and can blow fuses, mines took out the fuel pump relay.

Also where the right hand switch gear connects to the main loom look for any burning. It's located behind the right hand spar of the frame above the engine

10A? Are you sure about that? It does not sound adequate. Also, I just googled around and most of them have a 30A fuse there.

Sorry for the misunderstanding, me Engrish no well again. 10A it is, 15A for the horn though.

That botton dia looks like the ntv 650. The ntv 600 has a fuse box on the handle bars that has a 10a ignition fuse within. That's the starter relay fuse the 30a one.

Thanks everyone so far for the responses. Some of the wiring loom was moved from the headstock area as part of the ratification. So I'll start there. Also have a quick ponder at the switch gear. I happen to be working near the bike a bit later so will stop there at lunch.

It is definitely the 10a ignition fuse.
The bike is the earlier 600 revere with the fuses under the ignition switch as pointed out.

Shall keep everyone updated!

If you attach a couple of spade terminals to a bulb holder and bulb on a flying wire (an old flasher is ideal), you can plug it into the space where the fuse goes.

Then start wiggling wires and moving the bars, tank, side panels etc with the ignition on.

When the short circuit happens, instead of blowing the fuse or melting your wiring, the bulb will light up (it may light dimly normally but it will go fully bright when the short happens).

30amp is the main fuse on the starter relay, also fuses the charge rate. Most bikes then have a seperate 10amp or so fuse for the ignition circuit.

Before checking for breaks in the loom I would be checking the charge rate with a multimeter, does the fuse by any chance blow when you start going fast?

Weirdly it seems to blow when slowing down... Which I thought was odd. The first time it died literally as I came to a standstill at a junction
