What are the legalities of using your throttle to make people on the road aware of your presence?
...Putting aside the arguments over which is louder, Horn or Revving.
Is it considered acceptable use in the eyes of 'Da Law'?
If only for the reason that it's quicker than using the horn.

There's no specific offence, but you could be hit with Inconsiderate and a Section 59 bike ASBO.

Cheers, just looked up the section 59, looks like it doesn't come with points? but I guess the potential for bike seizure isn't worth it.

I guess it's worth sticking to the rules rather than what's safest/quickest.
Even though a stock cb500 exhaust could never be considered antisocial, Superman would struggle to hear it.

Could you argue you messed up your coordination when forced to brake suddenly? Assuming a short bounce off the rev limiter a around the time you start to brake.

You will fail to make others aware of your presence. Popo wont give a shit.

Anyone that hears will think you are a pathetic aggressive driver.

Yes I do it too Laughing

I just use it when filtering, so folks know I'm there. Seems less rude or aggressive than using the horn tbh.

I've never had popo or anyone else give a shit.

I rev my bike constantly, at traffic lights so I can get away quicker and cause I like the sound of it, if I'm behind a slow car I might rev the engine too cause the sound of the engine is soothing and calms me down. If someone is on the phone next to me at traffic lights I bring the revs high but bellow the limiter.

If I have an earphone in and am behind a slow car I try and rev to the tune, it is good because I can shit up a gear for a lower sound with bass or shift down for less bass and pull in clutch for higher stuff.

If doing a little filtering I will blip the throttle too if a gap is a bit tight or am going slow/doing tight turn while looking out for cyclists.

I can see why you might blip the throttle whilst filtering but nob's that sit at the traffic lights revving away pee me off. I quite like the way my bike idles and usually I can beat the revving idiot off the lights too.

But yes, when I'm stuck in slow moving traffic, your eyes aren't in your mirror's- it's looking at the dozy bird in the BMW infront making her third phone call in as many minutes so a quick blip of throttle does allow me to move my truck over to let the bikes past. Thumbs Up

It's supposed to be in addition to an actual offence, but it seems that it's being abused by Dibble to punish people in cases where they know there's no chance of them getting a conviction. There appears to be no way to challenge the issuing of an S59, you'd have to wait for the seizure on the 2nd "offence" and then fight it.

Who'd have thunk it? Rolling Eyes

I rev my engine at traffic lights.

When it's cold at the start of the journey to prevent it cutting out on idle.

cuz not all chokes increase the idle speed doe. I have to apply both choke and throttle to keep my frigid bitch from going back to sleep in the morning.

my bike is so quiet there's no point revving

last week I noticed when filtering, that cars were getting out the way, normally they don't give a shit.

turns out I'd used the power-washer a bit too vigorously on the bars and the high beam was flicking on and off Embarassed

when i had the issue with her stalling recently i had to sit at lights holding her at 3-4k, felt like an absolute knob.

cant argue against loud exhausts helping with filtering, everyone hears me coming Thumbs Up

My choke is awful, it's a Kwak GT550 and for some reason, dunno if it's standard or what, the choke isn't a slider, it's a sort of clicky thing which basically has a setting for full, half or closed. After the engine has been running a while it only needs a tiny bit of choke but I don't have that option. If I do use the choke, the revs will sit stupidly and unnecessarily high. So I choose to rev it manually instead.

Sounds like a good idea, perm high beam to aid filtering Twisted Evil

I often use my Revs as a horn, it's quicker to pull in the clutch and wang the throttle open, both actions you regularly perform than fumble for an unfamilar button.

I used to be a more regular revver - these days I rev at pedestrians occasionally, but use the horn equally often, it depends on hand positioning, speed, and proximity of pedestrians as to which I'll go for.

When filtering I tend to go for the pass button and give a quick flash from around 20 meters or so back (again speed dependant). I only do it if there is a gap I can't make it through though. I'd say 80% of the time a quick double flash from that distance is enough to get them to move over without me even slowing down.

This time of year is the worst for people who wobble through gaps you'd fit an African fucking elephant through, while constantly blipping the throttle and head shaking.
