Had my bike stolen last night from outside my house in Bristol. It was chained to a ground anchor but the thieves cut through the chain, without much trouble by the looks of it, and made off with it. I guess 125s are easy prey for bike thieves as they're light enough to chuck in the back of a van, and there's thousands of them on the used bike market.

Absolutely gutted - was only a 125, but I'd spent a lot of time and effort getting it into a nice state. Weather was finally picking up and I've got my Mod 1 booked in for a couple of weeks time. Really looking forward to getting out on it again and getting some practice in. Now worried where I'm going to keep a nicer bike in the future...

Easy to think that bike theft happens to someone else, but this has been a harsh reality check for me. Don't skimp out on a sub-standard chain!

Well, on to Gumtree and any local Facebook groups, best of luck.

Oxfraud chain, by any chance?

Redland/Bishopston. Bike was kept on a quiet residential road, so I imagine it was a pretty easy target at 4am

Yeah? Where are you? It was parked just off Elton Road if you know it, quite quiet and tucked away a bit.

Chain was an Oxford I think. Was planning on buying a decent chain but clearly spent too long deliberating on which one to get

I know. After all I've read, why oh why did I leave it locked up with an Oxford chain. Sad

Thing that worries me now is where I'm going to keep anything I buy post A licence - the only other option I have is on the road or pavement just outside the front of my house (not where the bike was nabbed from), which in hindsight may well be more secure but I'm still nervous to leave it there...

Yeah, I know where that is. Pretty close to Gloucester Road though, shame it's gone. I'm the other end of Redland, pretty quiet this end.

Not good.

Probably had the plates ripped off and is being skidded around the Railway Path.

Keep an eye out on the Bristol bike for sale Facebook page and Gumtree.

Qualified fuckyeah.

You know that you're going to get pumped for £150 or so to release it. Court of Appeals has upheld that it's payable, even though the letter of the law appears to say otherwise. Sad

Buy an Almax and an anchor!

Yep - £150 for recovery and £50 for storage as I couldn't pick it up straight away. Annoying, but still better than losing the whole bike. Marginally.

Nice that it has been found I know of 3 that were stolen recovered at the weekend. One was from Severn Beach the other other from Bradley Stoke. Seems the police are learning when mine was found all I got was a phone call from the recovery company.
