Suzuki Motor of America, Inc has recalled certain model year 2013-2014 SFV650 and 2012-2014 DL650A V-Strom motorcycles, and 2013-2014 AN650A Burgman scooters due to engine issues.

Suzuki says the motorcycle may experience engine stalling due to excessive tappet and camshaft wear. According to Suzuki, contamination from component production and storage, along with manufacturing variations may result in the tappet and camshaft wearing improperly, may result in a stalling scenario that puts the user at a greater risk for an accident. In total, Suzuki has said that the recall impacts 6,214 units.

Suzuki is notifying owners and dealers regarding the issue. Dealers will inspect the tappet clearance and have been instructed to replace the tappets and camshafts as necessary.

All bikes with less than 2500 miles will have their tappets and camshafts replaced because wear may not be evident yet. Of course, these services will be performed free of charge to the impacted owners. Expected to begin on February 1, 2016, owners may contact Suzuki customer service at 1-714-996-7040. Suzuki’s number for this recall is 2A50, 2A51, and 2A52.

If it's not clearly a safety issue then VOSA DVSA won't care and Suzuki GB can just shrug it off. Especially as it's on the pov-bikes.

Is that so? I'm naïve as to how these recalls work.

Stalling would be a safety issue, I wouldn't like to lose drive mid-corner, for example.

Wouldn't be a good idea on Suzuki's part though, however at this rate no one will probably even get told.

Wasn't there a load of problems with MT09's stalling due to the fuel map being crap, don't remember a full blown recall but i think Yamaha did sort out a new ecu map.

Unlikely unless you pull the clutch in. It's really up to DVSA to decide. You don't ask, you don't get.

I could be barking up the wrong tree here, but if my memory serves me right I think all those engines are manufactured by Hyosung in Korea.

Yamaha have recalled all their R1 M bikes. They need a complete gearbox out refit because one of the components isn't strong enough. I would be wanting my money back frankly if id just spent £16k and then meant to hand back the bike to the dealer for them to start tearing the gearbox down.

They all use the same engine as the gladius so pretty sure they're made by Suzy.

The recall affects 15 models from the 2008 to 2012 model years.

The company says in documents posted Thursday by U.S. safety regulators that the problem was traced to a circuit board in the charging system. One customer filed a complaint in the U.S., but more than 200 complaints were received from other countries.

Dealers will replace the charging system regulator-rectifier to fix the problem. Suzuki will notify owners and begin the recall repairs in early March at no cost to owners.

The recall covers the 2008 to 2012 AN400, AN400A, DL1000 and GSX1300R motorcycles as well as the 2008 to 2009 GSF1250S and GSF1250SA. Also affected are the 2008 GSX1300BK and GSX1300BKA, the 2008 to 2010 GSX650F, GSX-R600, GSX-R750, VLR1800, VLR1800T, and the 2009 to 2010 SFV650 and VZ1500.

Crappy Suzuki regulator/rectifiers...hmm...where have I heard that before...oh yes, the GSX250 which consumed all my meagre profits from despatching 30 years ago. Congrats to Suzuki on their progress.

Called at my Suzuki dealer today and so far no recalls yet for the Burgman. He said they'd not had notification yet from the importer.

My Burger is still running well with no issues.

I was in SMC yesterday getting the first service on my RC 390 Very Happy

When their parts guy came in looking a little shell shocked, as 5 pallets of Suzuki parts arrived for the recalls.

It didn't help that about half of their PC's were out of action due to Cryptolocker... He was having to up upstairs to scan in one thing, then back down etc...

Just had a recall notice for the two SFVs in the garage. Reg/rec replacement. Apparently damp can ingress the component, causing failure and damage to other components.

Recall could affect all 2008-2012 Suzuki motorcycles.
