I am looking to my A2 in the very near future, because I am not old enough to go straight to an A license I am going to have to either have a restricted bike or go for a lower end bike,

Has anyone got any experience on an RC390? I think they look amazing!!

My commute would not be long at all and I have a car anyway so I highly doubt this bike is ever going to see rain, also I am 6 foot so am I going to look like king kong on this bike?? Laughing Laughing

Kinda. They're roomy, but light weight.

What you want to know?

Do they have an alright amount of power, to put it into context I drive a 318i BMW, not the fastest of the lot but I can leave most people on my commute in the dust, will this bike do that as well?

Also is it easy to throw it round bendy roads?

Is it reliable or am I going to have to replace a lot of things every year and be cursing the day I bought one?

In a straight line kept on the boil it's the fastest A2 bike out there as it's right on the PWR limit with a full tank of fuel... going by kerb weight it has the same maximum acceleration as the latest BMW M3.

Yes

40+horsepowers in a bhaji wrapper? Yes, you'll find it will out accelerate most other road users. It won't blow your head off, but I reckon it's probably the closest you'll get to something that will.

140kg. You might have to reign back your throwing arm or you'll find yourself on your ears! It's light. Very light. Responds very well to inputs and you'll get great feedback from the surface. Go ride one, you'll see what I mean.

Ah. Now, we're talking the interesting talk. Lots of people have a mate with a mate who's had no end of issues, etc, etc, etc. They're put together in Inja. 2 year warranty, the only thing for sure that seems a weak spot is the radiator fan seems to be made out of poppadom.

Only see them as 'light weight' because the opposition is silly-heavy for the power.

As ever - a Duke 690 makes 60% more power, but weighs about 7.5% more (8-9kg) with better suspension.
Go for a 690SMC and you get that 60% extra power in a lighter chassis, still with 6k service intervals I think.

I'd go with one of them and restrict it, personally.

Sh*t the bed! pretty quick then, it would be used for the occasional motorway (depending on which office I am at for the day) and any other time will be just dual carriageway for a bit then mainly back roads,

That's fine I don't mind changing things and I'm anal about having it the best it can be mechanically just don't want constant problems

It's not quite that simple. I drive a BMW Z4 35iS on paper the RC390 has the longer legs until 80mph or so. The reality is the zed eats the RC390 alive unless you're in the right gear. Then the RC390 can just about pull away. But if you're wanting to make a traffic light GP getaway then you'll leave most cars behind.

I have a duke 390 full power version (44 of your finest wild ponies) absolutely love it. Accelerates as quickly as the Ferrari 360 I drove, so will eat pretty much anything BMW make.
Try the duke above the RC, same engine, chassis Tec, but more comfortable

Off the line; yes.
As the pace picks up; not nearly so likely.
A E36 M3 can be got from around two and a half grand and will be just slower to 60, but as the pace picks up will match supersport and with a bit more pace older superbikes.
New cars lower down the range match that for power.

Just reminded what they look like. Definitely justifies the quote marks - I though 'prop from an 80s sci fi show' might be more appropriate! Razz

Lol Rolling Eyes

It'd get fucked by an LC and that wouldn't beat an M3 either.

400bhp would disagree with you, even in something that weighs nearly two tonnes. You need a litre bike to live with that.

My 96 one is faster 0-60 than your bike and I probably paid less than your bike too. A stock one would leave your bike from 30mph I reckon.
They look like all the other BMWs of that year; which is convenient for parts.

Not fast compared to modern fast cars for the older ones, but fast compared to a 390 KTM in the vast majority of cases.

As far as that 360 - the specs suggest it's a noticanly quicker than your bike. Only just slightly quicker than a M235i, which is basically a glorified shopping cart.

The naked Duke does look fairly pretty - just unfortunately it doesn't have the performance to justify the looks or the money spent on it Wink.

You have a '96 M3? Pics! Razz

Whats the best 'fun' bike I could get G as a second bike? Got me looking at 690's now: https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/KTM-690-SMC-/322040037496?hash=item4afb150078:g:UYoAAOSwu1VW2Y-y

There's something about them that's just 'missing' for me, think it's the front headlight I'm not keen on.

I would love a SM for pure fun, budget 1-3k for a laugh. 2 Smoker? I can't find a half decent option.. maybe an older KTM?

Cheers!

Also, you haven't looked at prices of E36's recently have you? Before you do, I'll give you £2600 for yours? Wink

Decent ones are rocketing. Same as E46's.

CSL's could be had for £30-35k around 14 months ago, now similar cars are £50-80k. Good bloody investment if you ask me. Mad! Thumbs Up

Ah well that makes it all valid then. It's not fast because it's not as fast as a 500+ horsepower V12'd motor

In that case, a DBS isn't fast because it can't keep up with my MiG-25.

This shit's relevant. Real relevant.

How heavy is the E36 M3, were they 286bhp 3.0's or did they also use the 3.2L 321bhp E46 motor? I always had them down as about 1400kg? That's light though compared to modern cars even many hot hatch's I suppose.

Oh and yeah the LC350 is quite a bit quicker than the RC390 on acceleration, maybe similar on top speed 108-110mph? I bet on a track the poor LC would struggle, but you'd expect that with 80's brakes and chassis technology.

One thing I'm sure about is that LC man would be having more fun, and I bet his clothes stink alot more too! Laughing
