So I crashed on the the other day. No other party was involved.
I have insurance and i also opted for "Helmet and Leather" cover as an add-on.

My helmet visor is grazed and helmet has few white nicks - therefore big damaged but can still ride with. Just replacing visor is £40.
My textile Jacket in bad shape on the entire left arm/shoulder.

If I was to claim this from the insurance will it count as a claim on the policy and potentially increase my premium in the following years?

Why would it not?

Because I thought its a separate policy for Helmet/Leathers and different from the Insurance policy. As I guess I could get only the Helmet and Leathers cover from another company?

Second question is it worthwhile making the claim as it will impact the premium?

So, what's your answer going to be to the question "Have you had any accident, loss or claim in the past 5 years?"

agreed will put yes - hopefully will just renew with the same company so wont need to fill the form.

anyway think i will still make the claim - all my gear is brand new and only 1 week old.

Step away from the phone, internet and any other possible method of communication method you have with the insurance company and stay away from until you come to your senses. I really don't think you'll understand what you're doing until you've done it and find out at the time of renewal.

Jump from a height and tell me if it hurts. If yes would you do it again? If yes phone the insurance company and if no I'll join the party that attempts to stop you jumping in the first place so that you don't have to find out how much it hurts at all, ever.

It's late and I'm tired so I'll cut the long and short. Don't fcuking do it, simple as that. The claims going to bump up your insurance and stay with you for five years. FIVE BLOODY YEARS because you wanted an insurance company to pay out for some damage to cheap as chips gear that you'll end up paying for ten times over in the next five years through increased insurance prices.

Insurance companies are not your friend. Stick around and you'll find that out.

Replace the visor ASAP with your own money and ride with the jacket until you can afford another one.

Also don't tell them about the bike and either fix it yourself or get a local trusted independent to do it.

The warnings written above before you jump from that ledge into the black hole. Ignore or take the advice. Thumbs Up

Is the arm / shoulder of the leathers actually damaged or is it just scruffed?

All your questions about claiming are answered in your policy documents.

Given that it sounds like your leathers are just a bit scuffed, I expect claiming will cost you more over the next five years of having to declare an accident and a claim.

How old are you?

There's probably a £100 excess on the service, rendering it even more pointless.

Edit- read the website, no excess. It says it's only applicable for when involved in an RTA, so if you're claiming for the bike I assume you put the gear cover through simultaneously in which case you're claiming for the bike anyway, might as well chuck the gear on there.

I did this a few years ago. I TOLD my insurance company I'd come off on Icy roads, no damage to the bike whatsoever and I won't be claiming for anything, but I want the contact details for the helmet and leathers cover.

Nek minnit... A cheque for 1450 arrives in the post, made payable to a clothing shop of my choice.

I had to send photos of the damage, and got to keep all the gear.

Didn't have to claim anything come renewal time.
