Hi there!

So last year while living in London I passed my CBT and theory (March and May respectively), however, I then moved to the Isle of Man where I did my motorbike lessons (there's no DAS over there). I did my first test and failed then ended up moving back to London last month.

I decided to go for my second test on the Isle of Man but after a month of no riding (and only having 3.5 hours on the bike the day before my test) unsurprisingly I failed again.

I definitely need consistent riding before I do my test and my instructor thinks it's best to do my test in London (as I'll be getting a motorbike here and therefore riding around in the UK).

Thing is I've rang a few places and they say I have to do my DAS - which means all the training then the modules, which I don't fancy doing seeing as I've done all my manoeuvres and stuff. But on the Isle of Man we learn on a 125cc, whereas here in the UK I know you learn on up to 500cc so I can see why I'd have to do the full DAS.

To cut a long story short, anyone know of anyway I can just sort of do lessons then take the test in two parts without paying a bunchload of money for the entire DAS? Or should I just spend a week back on the Isle of Man and do some intense riding then go for my test again?

Cheers!

Erm.... Do the DAS.

One fail swoop.

It's only the cost that is prohibitive for a lot of folk. edit: and time off work school/college/uni/prison.
It is intensive training and testing for four full days. Then a big test on a big bike.
If you canny do that then there's no point in life for you to continue. Smile

you can do lessons n a big bike with no need to do any tests - lots of places should be able to offer you that.

then you can book the tests and do them when you wish. BUT, it will need to be on a big bike, so you'd prob be best off logistically using the schools bikes. in which case, you might as well book it as a package.

you dont need to do it as an intensive course - you can spread it over time. thats what i did.

Out of interest, on what points did you fail the test on the IoM?

Tbh, the test is much easier over there than in the UK. No Mod 1 nonsense for example and unless they've changed things in the past two years, all it involves is a 40 minute road ride which includes an emergency stop and a U turn, both of which are carried out on the road.

Did the examiner take you to Trommode for the U turn perhaps? As that is the worst/tightest of the three places they can take you. My bike at the time (R125) physically was unable to get round it due to its lack of turning circle.

Taking it in the UK will cost you loads more money to do DAS.

Also, if you don't mind answering, who did you train with over there?

EDIT: You do realise that if you sat your CBT and theory in the IoM that you'll have to re-sit both of them in the UK, as the DVSA don't recognise the manx ones because it's not part of the United Kingdom. So that's more money to add to your costs.

Does the reverse apply so people from the UK can take the test there.

To take your full licence test in the IoM you'll need a Manx provisional licence and a Manx address for it to be posted to.

You'll also need to sit both the Theory Test and the CBT in the IoM.
