Hey guys, so I passed my cbt yesterday after never riding before! Very happy right now:) My next step is finding my first bike!

I've had my eyes on an MT-125 for a long time and found a pretty good deal paying monthly for one, also during the 3 year period of paying monthly, when i pass my big bike test i can swap it for a different bike..

But I'm also tempted to buy a cheaper bike for year, saving money in the long run? Anyone know any another good 125's? and advice on the MT? Thanks guys!

Howdy!

How old are you? Just asking as it doesn't make sense buying an expensive 125 on finance if you're going to take your test in a year.

Depends what you want in a 125. Standard learner bikes are the Honda CG (probably a bit old now), YBR 125. Personally don't think the MT125's that special, but I know what it's like when you have your heart set on a bike Smile

You will get bored of a 125, there's a satisfaction from riding a slow bike quickly, but there's also pleasure from having a bike that accelerates/stops well & is a lot more stable.

Seeing as an MT-07 can be had for the price of a new MT125, getting a cheap(ish) learner bike, then your license would be my choice.

Hi Tritey.

OK, you've got no more than a year until you can do the A2 tests and get on a real bike.

The moment that you do, you'll realise why every penny that you spend on a 125 is wasted.

Get yourself any running 125 for as little money as possible, put the rest in a jar marked "Real Bike", tough it out until you hit 19, then move onwards and upwards.

If you're in any doubt about this advice, blag a ride on any 500cc+ bike and dispel your illusions.

Hi,

Looking for my first bike also and going the 125 route,

I was originally going to buy new with finance but completely against the idea now, I am just waiting for the right used cheap cbf125 to come up and I'll buy that,
Ride it for a year and then do the tests,

No point in spending 3 grand on a new bike that won't hold its price, let other people take the initial hit and buy it from them used, you could likely sell the used bike for the same or slightly less than what you paid for it, keep it for a year and get most of your money back,

Got advice like that from this forum Very Happy it's bloody right though

£2500 will buy you used KTM 125 Duke. You can sell it two years later for more or less the same price.

Much better bike than good old CBFs and YBRs. Much cheaper than MT.

My 2p Very Happy

And I'm sure you'll find plenty of owners very keen to sell you one as it comes out of warranty.

MTBikerGirl, what colour is your wallpaper? I can't tell as my Celestron Skymasters are a little fuzzy. Just a word of caution: I would recommend getting thicker curtains in case some weirdo watches you through your window. Shut them an hour earlier at 8:04AM instead of 9:04AM. Safer this way. Love the elephant lamp, too!

I would also advise that you get that rash seen to by your GP (just friendly, non-toxic advice).

Stay safe! Razz
