Looking to downsize from the st1100/trophy1200... want something for all year commuting 50miles/d. 2-up riding, and yet is still fun. Cheap to buy and easy to maintain. With the odd 2-up tour in mind. Cheers.

With those choices, under 1500 quid would be my guess.

Did the bandit 12 get the twin headlights of the 2001-2005 600? Headlights are really good. I like my b6, it's comfortable on longer trips and is cheap. Sw motech will do quicklock side racks to fit givi boxes and otner brands as well, so bandits luggage up satisfactorily. 2nd hand racks may be easier to find as they are so common.

Hmm... I would probably prefer a bandit. I hear they have lock nut valve adjusters? Nice torque. Yes my budget is around £1500. Willing to get a cosmetically ropey one due to nature of use.

Yes locknut valve adjusters on the bandit. Check every 8000 miles. Easy enough to service yourself, or piss cheap to get valve clearences done elsewhere compared to shim and bucket engines. Brakes on the 12 are uprated over the six, but still need quite a firm hand.

If you go TDM, the 900's are MUCH better than the 850's, the 850's burn oil.
