I've been having problems with the bike, at first the problem was just that every time I went over a big bump the speedo would drop from say 50mph to 30mph and then read correct again until the next bump. As it got worse the rev counter also joined in, it bounces around quite a bit.

I just rode it home and it misfiring almost all the way, as now it only needs a slight rumble for it to go a bit mad so I pretty much never get a solid speed any more.

I would have said stator but the bumps make me think some sort of loose connection, poor ground or damage to a harness... of course it could be the stator that fails as it vibrates but im hoping for something easier to fix! my indicator weren't working until I moved the cable behind the clocks around, can this harness actually cause it to misfire? it seems to be chafing on the screen.

I thought I would ask around before I look tomorrow in case there is a known problem which is common or maybe just some pointers would be helpful. I checked the charge voltage when it first occurred but obviously its fine unless its bouncing around on the road so this could be hard for me to find.

The most obvious one to check is the large white connector behind the left fairing panel on the 4XV and the 5JJ

In the past the lower pins have become so corroded the only way to cure the problem was to hardwire the connection and to bypass the large white connector.
If there is any corrosion, try WD40 or contact cleaner in the first instance.

Also check the multi-pin connector onto the rectifier/regulator in front of the battery box.I have had the +12v output connector fry itself and there was no alternative than to replace the R/R unit, which is about £80.So best to check this as well.Clean and use silicone grease to keep out any water Thumbs Up
