Hi,

Recently been buying bike gear slowly,
Got my helmet, gloves, boots and now a jacket,

Bought an RST textile one earlier,
Anyways I am going to get some bottoms soon,

Wasn't going to bother and just wear jeans but think I may be better off getting something safer,

For sizing shall I account for getting them over some trousers/jeans, or do I just wear them in my pants? Lol

Only going to buy one pair for now, Probably a budget of 100 quid

Depends on your job.

If you need proper trousers then smaller tighter biking trousers do nicely.

If you don't and work in jeans or what not then over trousers are ok.

Though over trousers will of course be warmer. A good thing in the winter... not so good in summer.

Why not get armoured kevlar lined jeans? That's my riding wear of choice.

If you go for leather or cordura textiles than as Itchy says, sizing depends on what you'll use them for. If you're going to use them for a commute and want to just whip them off at the end, go a size up and wear them over your normal trousers. If you're going to wear them for leisure and pleasure, get your regular size. You'll still be able to fit a base layer underneath.

My riding plans are weekends really, I am a service engineer with a car so at the moment commuting sort of bike gear is not on my mind at all,

I'll probably start off with short rides, and get on the bike whenever I can, even if it's a 15 min ride to the shop,

I reckon the kevlar jeans are probably for me then,
Wear my pants and those lol
I'll pick up a pair next month, getting my equipment together slowly, pretty much got my bike cash, have 1.5k for that and trying to stick to it,
I can get insurance costs together easy enough

In the future I'll build up a few sets of clothes but I'll settle with the jeans for now I think Very Happy

Got to agree, in any reasonable weather and for normal riding.

Leisure and pleasure? Surely that’s arseless leather chaps with nothing underneath?

Hate to be an ATGAT nazi here, but kevlar jeans only add about 15-20% more protection than regular jeans. Which is still better of course, but good quality armoured cordura textile pants are much safer. For £100, RST has a few decent models with removable inner lining.

Just saying:)

Depends on the type of roads you'll be riding. I wear Kevlar jeans as most of my riding's in town, on faster roads/motorways you will probably want better protection (leathers or textiles).

Good choice. Having said that you say you get them for protection.

The protection is provided by:

1. The kevlar - not all jeans are the same, some have kevlar only on some places, some are 100% covered.
2. How strong are the stitches - if they burst you'll get unclothed in 1 second, and your ass will be gliding on the tarmac with the mighty kevlar left somewhere behind you along the other parts of the jeans.
3. The armor - good jeans must have knee and hip armor, hopefully CE certified not made from drunken chinese guy.

Without all the above you are just waisting your money and buying false sense of protection.

Now good kevlar jeans that have good kevlar coverage, are CE certified for tear of the stitches and have decent knee and hip armor are not so many and are in the range of over £200 mostly.

Based on all the above I recommend you to look at Furygan Duke textile pants too: https://www.getgeared.co.uk/furygan-motorcycle-trousers-duke-ce-wp

They are CE 2 tear and abrassion certified and have good armor too. As an added bonus you will have half an hour waterproof protection. Which is better than the jeans Very Happy

Rst do an inexpensive device that threads through a belt and allows you to zip a jacket to such. Avoids the bare (and cold) arsecrack that a short jacket and jeans usually produces. I'm wearing waterproof textiles in the winter and when it's rainy and leathers when the weather is less shit. There are some denim and kevlar items out there that have ce certification and might actually be fit for purpose, but they are bulkier than textile. Denim is a moisture magnet and on the few occaisions i have ridden in denim i've got quite damp and cold where i wouldnt in leather and would be toasty in textiles. I have a set of textiles just big enough for me to fit a pair of jeans or casual trousers on underneath, which is convenient in some circumstances, but is uncomfortable. Whatever the weather my jeans end up damp.

Ill have a look at the jeans next month,

Might see if I can stretch to jeans and textiles if the jeans don't look armoured enough,

Basically want something I can throw on,
The gear I have bought so far is kind of all mismatched and different brands but I don't mind for my starter gear,
I'll deffinatly be building up spares and things like that in the future,
Might get a leather jacket aswell,
Mainly went for the textile jacket first as was told it was waterproof and its quite warm,
Thought if I only have one jacket for a while at least I have the option of a warm waterproof jacket for the DAS if I get round to that before I buy another jacket,

Tried quite alot on, hard to find a good fit, the one I got Is a good fit with all the armour and so on, but they are abit short aren't they?
Well the RST ones I was trying on were, can see it riding up my back as 'talktothehat' says,
Zip together textiles should help with this,
But also thought my first bike will be a Commuter seating position so jacket rising may not be an issue,

I'll have a bike by June anyway, 30th Birthday treat for me,
Should have everything I need by then

I wasnt aware this was a computer game & you could open your stat screen showing the attributes of your armor. Which button do you push for that?

Kevlar jeans are only reinforced in certain (key) areas, not much armour, only knee pads in mine. I find textile trousers uncomfortable personally. The jackets can be a bit short but not really an issue tbh, if you've got waterproof trousers on you're normally dry, only if it really rains heavily does the jacket get drenched but they're warm.

I have a Spada jacket, Oxford K-Jeans, Lidl gloves, Nitro boots, Bell helmet Smile No need to support one brand unless they're sponsoring you Wink

It's great fun turning up to my monday game in the winter. Host's wife likes the heating turned up to sauna and host is too sperg to be talked out of wandering around with his moobs out. If I'm lucky i left trousers in my luggage, but more often than not there's a side bet going on as to whether i'll have milsurp green longjohns on. Bonus choking on coffee if i've appropriated a pair of tights. I dont think you can get away with that in an office job.
