Why do people put a bike on Gumtree 'Open to swap'?
Their bike is fucked, they want some fool to trade a better one.

They have a 125 and want a bigger bike, so then why would the other person want to trade?

Are people who post their bike on Gumtree "open to swap" etc ever genuine?
(perhaps discounting the ones phrased like the thread title)

What is the logic behind people who want to swap if their bike is already working, surely one person has to lose out then?
(in a cash deal there is always the possibility that both parties can almost come out on par, fair trade)

Yeah but swapping fluids is mutually beneficial too same as cash... for a bike. Smile

So is it just boredom then? I just assumed if that was the case it was always for MOAR POWA, in which case the other dude loses out. Thinking

Some guy wanted to swap a Bandit for my 125 as he was on an international license (and had been here for 6 months?).

Normally they're slightly delusional, saw a guy recently with an XR125 wanting to swap for a DT125. A number of swap for a car ads too, teens bored of their learner bikes I guess.

I have been searching tons of sites for a used bike and saw an advert where someone wanted to swap his bike for an xbox one,
Unsure if they are real ads or not, I see alot with bad spelling as well which for some reason puts me off buying a bike from them

It's normally degenerates who don't understand how to sell stuff or are trying to mug someone off with a shit deal. I always steer clear...

Wink

They are real ads.

When they start offering mobile phones, air pistols, staffy pups and other such valuables into the transaction, you can be 100% certain that you're dealing with a genuine gangsta kiddy. Thumbs Up

I think you may be correct, I just msged one asking when he was free.
I texted my workplace to see when I could get time off, in the space of 30 mins the guy txted me saying £350 if gone today ...OK Thievey McfuckBugger. Laughing
I'd rather be paranoid than ripped off again.

The essence of every voluntary free market trade is that both parties believe they've come out ahead, otherwise it wouldn't happen.

I straight swapped my HN125 for a GPZ500S. The GPZ needed some TLC which I was willing to do, the chap wanted a running 125 with a fresh MOT, we were both happy with the result.

Sometimes people are bored of their bike or would like to try a different style, eg motocross. If I sell one of my bikes and someone offers me something that I think is better then I might accept after viewing, they on the other hand will think It's fair.

Its the same as trading football cards in primary school until some retard realizes they lost out and cry to the teacher they want their card back and then the cards get banned from the school, 50% of the time you will get bullshit offers and decline them, 30% fair and 20% good.
