General bike chat?

If you're after a bike that can achieve NSL + more easily and without being at the top end and struggling of its power than getting something with more power than a 125 would be the way to go.

Be happy with what you've got. I own a 125 that can't achieve NSL speeds and therefore would be a hazard should I attempt to ride on such a road, I wouldn't even trust trying it in lane 1 of a NSL. Laughing

Pretty sure one could do 96 with some good tuning, had 86 on my nsr once, most of time could only do 80. I'm pretty sure I hit over 90 on it once too but was way too scared to look down. was trying to keep up with someone on a big bike going down the perfect hill, the cars were pulling over to let me pass thinking we were riding together having him pass already.

There is always a way, however it isn't worth the effort, being a scooter it is a lot harder to than a motorbike and even then you'd be spending a lot more than you would on just buying a 2 stroke and it wouldn't even be as fast.

Depending how torquey your scooter is you might be able to change sprocket size and lose a bit of acceleration. They do have chains right?

Oh I didnt mean motorways if thats what you thought. Jeez it's a deathwish with 65 max and lorries in lane 1 overtaking. I meant A-Roads and dual carriageways where limit is 60 but still everybody overtakes.
So theres absolutely no way to modify engine to make go faster?

Of course there is but there is always a trade off. A faster but more temperamental bike. You will find you have a narrower powerband, The reliability will drop. You will be doing way more maintenance to keep it going.

If you like fettling hyper 2 strokes then fine Thumbs Up If you just want to ride them then no.

The old adage 'there is no replacement for displacement' is pretty true.

An indicated 96 isn't unreasonable.

Riding a derestricted 125 with only a CBT isn't legit.

To be honest, at 65 you're only 5mph below the fastest national speed limit (dual carriageway).

If you mess with it, and really don't know what you're doing, you will break it. A 125cc bike/moped is brilliant for learning, hence why they're not fast! You could very easily kill yourself at 65.

I really wouldn't want to do 90+ on an Aprillia or like the like...... Lightweight and the skinniest of tyres must make it interesting.

Ride the moped, gain experience, go do your A2 when you're 19 and buy a big bike.

In order to de-restrict something, you have to work out what is restricting it in the first place.

Some bikes have no restricting devices at all - they are simply working at their design limits, but for example, the Varadero 125, has several restrictions added:

1. A rubber bung and a perforated metal plate in the air box, to restrict air flow.
2. A 'choke' in the front exhaust downpipe, and a reduced diameter rear downpipe.
3. Different fuelling setup on the rear carb (or different mapping for the rear injector).
4. A small diameter reduction in the inlet rubbers.
5. A rev limiter on the engine that reduces the top speed to roughly 70mph (with standard 14/44 final drive gearing).
6. Later models also have O2 sensors that restrict exhaust gas flow.

I needed to make a few minor adjustments to mine, just to make it safe to ride at lower speeds, and I don't know or care what the top speed is.

If I need to get somewhere sooner, I just start out earlier Smile

Then get one. Good luck selling the Kymco scooter. Have a look for a Honda Varadero 125 or Hyosung GT125, both of which are knocking on the 11kW/~15bhp power limit.

Alternatively, and inB4 stinkwheel, stop caring so much about what's going on behind you. Ride well out in the lane, focus on what's ahead, and ride your own ride.

Losing the Loser plates will help, by the way. £23 for theory, £15.50 for mod 1, £75 for mod 2.

Years ago I had a Honda mt50 I spent loads of time making it go faster and had great fun doing it as well as learning about the engine.
The result was a top speed of 70mph however it kept heat ceasing and needed rebuilding every weekend..... So it's not all good, I'd get yourself a 125 asap and do you're full test cus in my experience 50s and 125s will never be quick enough and tuning etc never works out well on these little bikes.
I know very well how frustrating it can be and sympathise with you Very Happy
