Hello,

I'm hoping to get new bike suggestions. I'm looking for a bike with a really light clutch and good low speed manners. I ride in a city a lot and there's a lot of stop-start traffic, stop signs and low-speed creeping.

My current, old ducati is murder to ride in these situations.

I could get something small, but I like to take long 2-up rides to the mountains and such with a combination of highway and twisties.

edit: I don't have room for more than 1 bike, and I don't want a scooter or an automatic bike.

Thank you.

I used to ride an R1200 RT. Mostly city centre riding and a lot of heavy traffic / creeping.
Supremely comfortable with good wind protection and handle brilliantly at high and low speeds. Turns nice and tightly and a pleasure to ride round town. Great for filtering even with panniers, although you expect you wont fit through the gaps it does!

I dislike them generally and wouldn't be my choice, but... what about a scooter? Seems to match your wants.

Ha ! Ha ! Ha ! so was mine Laughing Laughing

i`ve bought a cb1000r .. very mild mannered and smooth down to 35mph in 6th .. brakes and suspension work well ...
not the most exciting bike i`ve ever owned but easiest to live with in an urban environment .. hydraulic clutch which feels light enough ... good for twisties but bit windy past 80mph.

This.

Keep your bike for playing with and get a scooter. You could get high capacity scooter or a cheapy 125cc.

Thanks for your reply - I don't have room for two bikes and I don't want a scooter - I have ridden my GF's maxiscooter and it just really is not fun in the mountains... or anywhere. Very Happy

ok, it is not that bad, but I like motorcycles and manual gearboxes better.

Oh; just noticed you're in California (99% British site here).

Do you have a weak left hand?

What Ducati do you have now?

You have a huge choice - Honda ST1300, loads of BMW tourer or GS models of 800cc or more (maybe not the heavy 1600), Yamaha FJR13 or Tenere 1200...etc. For the absolute easiest to handle with a low C of G and good manners in a hot traffic jam...I don't know but even though I'm a fan of BMs, I suspect the Honda might win?

My father in law has a 2013 fireblade..... Lightest clutch I've ever seen. I've got early onset arthritis and even I can one finger clutch it

If you got the means what about Triumph Thunderbird 1600 or even the new Bonneville 1200 ? they can be economical yet got the grunt for 2 up touring and shall probably hold their value very well.

Otherwise there are plenty reasonably priced Triumph ST's that may fit your requirements.
