PostPosted: 07:39 - 07 Apr 2016    Post subject: A2 License holder in Australia! NEED HELP! Reply with quote

Hi guys,

So I arrived in Sydney last week on a Working Holiday Visa. I intend to stay in NSW for the duration of my Visa so I do not need to exchange my license to the Australian one.

However, I hold a full A2 License for the last 2 years (I'm 23) and after a lot of research, I'm still unable to find out what I can ride in NSW.

Can I ride whatever the EU license allows me to ride?
Or do I need to stick to some AUS rules? It seems very difficult as there is no equivalent of A2 here.

I want to get KLE500 as in EU, I will be allowed to ride on it without a restrictor so it seems like a legal bike for me over in Australia also.

Anyone with knowledge in this area/topic?

It looks as though you can ride what you're licensed for. But it does change from territory to territory

Yeah that would seem logical to let me ride what I am licensed for but don't wanna get in trouble if stopped on KLE500 Razz

You could always ring the Aussie consulate as a starting point

Go to the nearest RTA office and ask them?

I'm here right now, sydney, and have been for the last 4 years.

Guess what? You can ride whatever the hell you like. Aus cops are cunts, but they're stupid cunts, and won't know what an A2 is anyway. 2 years of holding it implies your restriction period is up? You're in the same boat as me, mine still says <25kw on the back and it's been checked a lot.

If you're on a KLE500, isn't that LAMS anyway, so learner legal?

At the very worst, do the 2 day MOST course and you can ride most things below 660cc with the equivalent of a CBT.

Don't do this though, international licences are precious things. Points immunity, just pay the fine.

yeah KLE500 is LAMS approved so that's why it got me thinking I ride it.

I'm not going to do any courses as I don't know if I will get sponsored. If I will find a sponsor I will think about it then.

It's very bad that they don't have any equivalent for A2, A2 should be LAMS end of story.

I'm wondering if I get a letter from my license provider stating that I am licensed to ride KLE500, will that do when I'm stopped... I guess that would be fair enough?

is your restriction period over?

If you NEED to do it, the course is only like $80 including bike hire. I know a few people who've done it.

there is no period on this restriction. the restriction finishes when I turn 24 (july) and I need to another module on a bigger bike that will take the restriction off. It's called an IBT Module (I'm from Ireland) and will need to do it there for the restriction to be taken off.

If I do the course you mentioned, they will take away my EU license right?

If you're on a KLE500 I'd expect the real trouble will be getting it started...

Yeah, it will, you'll only be able to ride on the NSW licence as it overrides your international one. Post some pics of your licence and entitlements and I'll see if it's like mine.

You literally have no worries about them checking though... I went to court for speeding, and told them I had a clean licence, and got a lesser fine for it being a "first offence" when I had 7 points.

I also know a load of people who have either dodgy fake international licences, who have had them converted to NSW ones, or don't have a licence at all and just use a foreign language ID card as their licence.

If I were you, I'd try my luck with the RTA and see if they'll convert your A2 licence to a full NSW licence (it's a direct swap, without taking a test), as they Won't know what it is. It's probably your best bet if you need to do another test to get an unrestricted licence in Ireland.

They use a license in USA

I hope this helps.
