Quick question.. what causes this yellowing / discolouring (rust..?) on exhausts.. Is it cause for concern & can it be got rid?

Heat causes it. Look at your down pipes. Downpipes go yellowy/brown all the time.

Autosol or other polish brand and it will polish back to the shiny metallic colour.

Yes and no, but I'd say yes as they tend to be more restrictive (the heat accumulates easily). The worst case scenario is yellow turning into black and black into a hole in the exhaust system. Thumbs Up

It's the effects of oxygen reacting with the metal at certain temperatures. The darker blue colour indicates the metal has been exposed to oxygen at a higher temperature than the yellows.

Some like it's 'decorative' appeal. Some like their shit shiny.

It's caused by a lack of Solvol & elbow grease. This pipe was fitted 17 years ago

Yes, but a lot less than it would be without the aforementioned elbow grease & solvol. It's got 115,000 miles on it.
