What boots

I'm after a pair of good boots.

Reckoning that your ankle is one of the most vulnerable things in the event of a crash I want something that will offer me good ankle/shin protection.

I'm not that keen on flash, loud, garish racing style boots, rather something discrete and practical. What I have noticed though is that the protection offered by racing boots seems far superior to that offered by touring boots e.g. the Sidi Black Rain Evo vs. Sidi Vertebra Evo boot - or am I mistaken.

What advice you guys got?

Mainly used for commuting and the occasional long jaunt off to the seaside/mountains. Bike is a Bandit 600 if that has any bearing...

Can you recommend any good online suppliers?

The Black Rain Evo's are very good boots. Very comfortable with good protection. However, the Vertabra boots are better in terms of protection, although they are not waterproof and not as comfortable.

Heine-Gericke no frills boots rule OK by me. I got a pair of £70 boots, which stopped me from damaging my toes when I came off. They look respectable, are as waterproof as any leather boot, and are dead comfortable.

In the Sport boots section on that page. They say they're summer boots, and in this british summer, they've not let a drop of water in.

Hein Gericke boots have been good to me too. Cool and waterproof, and comfortable enought to wear all day.

I wear basic Frank Thomas boots, just sturdy leather boots with enough layers where you need.

Testament to their protection is that they probably saved my ankle when I crashed offroad and the footpeg found my foot.

I paid £80 2nd-hand, they'd hardly been worn.

Very comfortable for a 2nd-hand pair which were broken-in by another rider.

My Black rain Evo's didn't stop my leg snapping and my ankle joint being crushed after my crash, however the mere fact of having the boot on stopped any dislocations and probably meant I didn't need to have my leg pinned.

They are also very waterproof and keep your feet lovely and dry!
I liked 'em but will be replacing them with vertabraes or heavily armoured Alpinestars.

I have sidi verterbra 2's for when i go pillion on my dads bike and they are awsesome. I love them. Good looking, comfortable and they are kinda water proof. I have stood about in them during moto gp and cock of the north (road racing in scarborough Smile

(where it bucketed down)) and they seem fairly water proof.

They look fairly discrete in black aswell!
