Company I work for are relocating to the Moorgate area (https://www.google.co.uk/maps/place/26+Wilson+St,+London+EC2A/@51.5214266,-0.0854642,19z/data=!3m1!4b1!4m2!3m1!1s0x48761cae60f076c5:0x4dafe708efcc330c)

There are plenty of on-street bike bays in the area but what are my free off-street parking options around there?

I know of the City of London carpark at London Wall but that's a 10+ minutes walk away. Any others?

Also, does anyone know if NCP do season tickets for bikes? If so, how much? The Finsbury Square NCP charges £6 per day.

thanks Thumbs Up

IIRC the season tickets are the yellow ones that you just put in and out of the entry and exit machines and take the money from them at the exit when you leave for your stay. Only one kind for all as I understand.

I'd test that your bike weighs enough for the sqaure thing underneath the ground to pick up your bike giving you a ticket and allowing you in first before investing in one. Just ride up to the entry, press the button and then ride to the exit and put the ticket in and leave ASAP. You get fifteen minutes to enter and exit for free, I assume that still stands across the company.

I've no idea what NCP London are like but providing you can stomach the parking fee's then do all you can to chain your bike up good and proper. Local NCP car parks are dodgy as fook and attract nothing but trouble.

hmm... my experience is different. I used park my motorbike at an NCP car park when i worked in Mayfair back in 2013. The motorbike parking area had a camera pointed towards it and there were parking wardens there in the morning and in the evening. No complaints from me.

They used to charge £5 a day and offered a season pass as well.

Cheers inline5.. do you remember how much you paid for the season ticket? Is it like a pay once and use all year type thing?

Visit NCP Birmingham and you'll understand my comments. Working CCTV? Say what now. Laughing

I never took a season ticket because i used to commute to Mayfair twice a week by motorbike. But i was told by one of the more friendly parking wardens at the time that the saving on a 6 month ticket was almost 50% compared to what one would pay for a day ticket.

How busy do the bike bays get? Is it realistic to always park in the same spot? If it is, how about buying a big, heavy chain from Almax or Pragmasis and leave it there, chained to a lamp post/pole, etc? Ie using it only when you park the bike there, not carrying it around. These chains are not cheap but worth every penny. The 16mm and 19mm chains are impossible to cut with bolt croppers. The 13mm chains (only Pragmasis sells them, Almax doesn't) can theoretically be cut with bolt croppers but you need a big guy with big croppers. The 13mm chain also come with a noose, which almost doubles the usable length.

thanks for replies all..

I don't mind the 10 min walk but it can get a bit labouring sometimes, especially when it's raining hard.

Some of the bike bays in the area have dedicated pole things to lock the bikes to so that's a plus. But I'm willing to pay a small premium for the NCP with is 3 min walk away, just trying to find out what that premium will be.

Do not pay. It is free to park motorcycles in car parks, bike bays etc... in the City of London.

Closest are these car parks with free motorcycle parking: https://www.cityoflondon.gov.uk/services/transport-and-streets/parking/where-to-park/car-parks/Pages/London-Wall-car-park.aspx

Q-Parks are all free to motorcycles and there is one at Tower Hill which is still closer than the nearest NCP.

Other options are:

- Free parking in any motorbike bay in the City of London.
- There are posts or those little rings in the ground at a few bike parking spaces.
- Find a regular and daisy chain.
- Private land: For a good ten years, I parked on private land. I do it now as I live in zone 1. In one case, in Holborn, I parked there for about a year on the outside of a car park. Because the land was private, the bike couldn't be ticketed.

It's only free in the corporation of london car parks and there are only 5. Tower Hill being one which I currently use. Also living in central London you'll know that Tower Hill is a 25 minute walk from Moorgate. Don't fancy that before and after work with all my gear on Laughing
London Wall is an option but it's a 10 minute walk which isn't too bad but ncp is a 3 minute walk. Bike bays are 10 second walk. All viable options but I'm after a compromise of safety, convenience and free!!

I work right near there (Bloomberg). There are a about 60-70 along Finsbury Square (basically, next to your office) and about 100 along Finsbury Circus (about 5-minute walk away), although some of those are blocked off because of Crossrail work. Both fill up by about 8:30-ish, though, and only a small number have either a bar or ring anchor to chain to, so you'd have to be really early to get one of those. Bikes do get stolen there once in a while, but it hasn't happened (to my knowledge) in the three years or so that I parked there. I just used a disc lock.

For the last couple of years, I've been in a building on Finsbury Circus that Bloomberg is renting to take the overflow until they finish their new headquarters further in the city (Walbrook). This building just happens to have motorcycle parking underneath (with a full-time security guard). I parked outside in Finsbury Circus for about six months before I discovered this, so it's worth asking about.

In about a year, when we move to Walbrook, I'll be in the same position as you -- both of these areas are quite a walk away from the office. The nearest ones are NCP (£6 a day -- still cheaper than the tube from Zone 5), so I'd be interested to hear how it goes for you.

Never struggle to find parking in London again. Thumbs Up

Used to be a total ballache as I worked all over, various boroughs all having different rules regarding bike parking in car bays etc, or hunting through the local council's website to try and find bike parking list. This app does it all, tells you exactly where you can park, what the operating times are, how much it will cost, and whether its free for bikes or not. Some bays it lists whether they have ground anchors for bikes too, though thats not always accurate as I think it has to be added by users rather than part of the app itself

Do you happen to know the name of this building?

I've emailed NCP to enquire about block booking/season ticket prices for bikes for the Finsbury Square car park but no reply yet.

The underground parking is for tenants only -- it's not a general parking lot. The security guard checks your pass when you come in, at least until they start recognizing you. The entrance is next to Pret on Eldon Street, if you are curious what it looks like. The are only about 20 spots, drawn around the edges of the area used for deliveries and rubbish, but it's a huge benefit to us who work in the building. I wish more companies provided that.

There's also a lower level (via a car lift) with a few car spots, but that's used for pushbikes.

Don't remove your plate so you can park on a yellow line. It works in the boroughs but in the City there's no tolerance for it and your bike goes to the pound fairly rapidly. Friend of mine lost his ZX10 that way - the bays in Finsbury Sq were full so he parked a little outside the bay and took the plate off. Because of work commitments he was unable to get to the pound before the fines and storage charges had risen to somewhere near the value of the bike. So he wrote it off and bought a 'Blade.

Laughing never crossed my mind tbh!! I can imagine in the city your bike would get moved sharpish if it was parked in a dodgy looking way!

It's a shame really. In the rest of London you don't need parking apps or bays or anything, just velcro on your plate.

I'd ask my work to pay for parking, or pay me enough to live around the corner.

Current thinking is that it'd take nine figures to make me do the North Circular in rush hour again every day.
