Me and a mate a considering buying one by, the looks of it £2000 will get you a tidy one, we are looking at spending 1000-1500 on something that needs a bit of work mainly for shits and giggles. It will be something we use for solely the LOLZ as the kids say.

Buy one, they are entertainingly horrible. Take it out in the snow and do donuts.

Or get a nasty Chinese import sidevalve one for even more authentic WW2 nazi sidecar action. Chang Jiang I think they were called. I think they were knocking out new old-stock ones from the 1950's at one point that you could register as tax exempt.

You do know sidec*rs are hyper-unstable turbodeath suicide machines?

I would strongly suggest riding one before buying one. The experience is truly terrifying.

^^^
But fun, I regularly 'borrowed' my dads 400 Four with cheese wedge shaped Squire sidecar at age 19 approx.
Character building rather than terrifying I'd say. Cool

silky666 hasn't posted since he got a Ural outfit. I suspect he's either halfway around the world or stuck under it on the exit of a roundabout.

Wonderful things. Fell in love with them after seeing one haring around backwards at some rally.

Go for it, especially the driven sidecar version Thumbs Up

I had a sidecar outfit on L-plates when I was 19, back when there was no engine size restriction for them. First time out I hit a milk float with the chair wheel and bashed the mudguard right in. Few days later I shit myself on a left-hander down a country lane when the chair lifted and put I it in the opposite ditch. Later I learned if you do small left hand circles in the car park with a mate in the chair you could lift them right off the ground Very Happy

Killed it eventually overtaking a Sierra which turned right.

Turns out they aren't, and never were, road legal in the UK because the sidecar is on the wrong side.

A few slipped through the net and were inadvertantly registered.

In fairness, a left hand sidecar is terrifying enough. For any number of reasons, a right hand sidecar on UK roads is a horrible thought.

They 2WD ones never had a diff either so the 2WD functionality was strictly for getting you out of the shit in offroad situations.

Oh, you'll like this. Ural dealers not being without a sense of humour.

Remember that scene in the film Armageddon where the cosmonaut goes apeshit and starts battering the spaceship with a huge spanner?

Well, they found out what sort of spanner that was and fitted one to the side of a special edition Ural.

Pretty much as I assumed then, shit at anything practical but plenty of laughs till it's written off. I'll hopefully be picking one up next weekend. Tuned for project Boris!

I suspect this is not entirely correct and only applies to first registrations.

Any sidecar combo registered before 1981 can have the sidecar on either side, after that, it must be on the left.

Try to obtain the 2WD version, if you're going for the sidecar Ural.

Probably wrong as well. Probably applies to first registration in the UK not to re-registration in the UK after first being registered in another EU country.

You're correct, I worded it badly, not for the first time in recent days.

I'd love one, but I'd have to mount a Lewis gun on the sidecar.
