Was looking a bit worn after the streetfighter day but i'd hoped it'd last till the end of next week but today it blew out.

I need to get a new pair of tyres this weekend but i'm not 100% what to get. It did have dunlop d208's on it but i didn't really get on too well with them, found the rear wheel didn't feel planted/stable enough sometimes on sharp bends. I used to have metzler sportec m1's on my old gsxr and really liked them but they wore out really quickly and i can't afford to be getting new tyres every couple of months. I tend to do quite a lot of first gear wheelies which is what has killed this tyre off so quickly.

I've got about £200 to spend on a pair of new tyres, anyone got any suggestions? I've been recommended to get a pair of supercorsa's (same price as sportec m1's) but have never tried them and have no idea how long they'll last. Anyone know?

Supercorsas aren't great tyres apart from in good conditions for fastish riding, in which case they're excellent.

I would have a look at the Bridgestone 014, which is the successor to the 010 which was a very good 'all-round' tyre.

If you are looking on the cheap end the 207RR; like a 207GP (similar to supercorsa) but with a road orientated tread and carcass can be got quite cheaply.

Aren't the Supercorsas the old tyre now anyway?

I was in this position a couple of weeks or so ago. Exactly the same with Dunlops and I'd had some Sportecs on my other Blade. I'd only had the Sportecs for a couple of weeks before the bike was written off (nothing to do with the tyres) and fancied some more.

In the end it came down to a choice between the Diablos and the Sportecs. I went in to the tyre place and thought I'd make a snap decision, even though I thought I might well go for the Metzelers again. Asked how much for both, exactly the same price, asked what the differences were as Metzeler now own Pirelli and had heard they were very similar tyres. Was told the Diablo was a better tyre, newer, better technology, blah, blah, blah, and as there was no profit for the fitter in either, I took them at face value and fitted the Diablo.

It's been excellent, used the bike in all the recent varying conditions and they have been top banana.

As for wear? We'll see. They are the standard Diablo not the sticker Diablo Corsa which I probably would have killed by now. They still look fine for tread and should hopefully last me a while. Thumbs Up

How fast were you going when it let-go?

I had a rear tyre blow-out at 60mph halfway round a corner once, somehow stayed with it and landed up halfway up the verge shitting my pants. Cheap shite Soviet tyre it was, the entire tread had delaminated from the side wall and was floating about by itself!

Pirelli own Metzeler, and have done for about 20 years.

All the best

I have been using Maxxis Sportsmax ones on my supermoto. They are a direct copy of the Metzeler, are a considerable chunk cheaper and I feel I can get further over on them.
