Yep - looking for a new tent, anyone got a good quality suggestion that doesn't break the bank and is bike friendly in terms of packed size?

Thanks!

re: size - is it going in panniers or soft luggage?

A very decent 3 man tent that I have is the Coleman Aravis 3. Under £100, will fit into a Kriega US30, 39x17x16cm pack size and fairly lightweight. Most 2 man tents are around the same pack size or very slightly smaller, but one you've got all your kit in along with a sleeping bag it can get a little cosy, hence why I've gone for a 3 man tent.

I have a Coleman Cobra - Brilliant tent!

I tied the foot end guyrope to the parked bike - if anyone tried to move it the tent would have collapsed and woken me up Smile

Have a look at some of the quechua tents. They are kicking out some very reasonably priced lightweight tents.

I just bought a Quickhiker Ultralight 2 . Build quality is very high for the price range and it's small enough to fit in a pannier.

I just bought the MSR Hubba Hubba NX.

Was looking for a tent weight of 2.5kg max, plenty of ventilation, and small pack size.

Originally I was going to go with the Nemo Losi but it's a light green that will attract loads of insects. Just ask any Kawasaki owner.

The Exped Corina II was another option, but is heavier and roomier than the Hubba Hubba.

I just bought a Vango Tempest.

https://www.gooutdoors.co.uk/camping/tents/1-2-person-tents

I got it on speshal coz there was only the display in the shop.

Cozy for one. A squeeze for you and your mates though. Smile

Some sites will give an indication of tent weights which is a clue to pack size. But ultimately go to a shop and pick one up in your hands to see how it will sit on a bike/backpack.

Ohh, lots of ideas, thanks everyone!

I'm probably looking for a 3 man, I dont have a panier kit on the triple at the moment but I might invest.

Lots to go on though, all new to me from car camping previously.

So as to save creating another thread. Go four man for two people (ie me and the Mrs)? It appears the BCF massif like camping and my 2 man Gooutdoors spethal just isn't cutting it Mr. Green

Two in a four is roomy if pack size isn't a problem for you. I think wee is beautiful for on the bike so would choose a three man (or Two women and one man). Not too much of a squeeze and it will still provide room for awe the other essential shite you end up taking camping. Rolling Eyes

Always opt for one with a Vestibule/Reception as that is the Golden Space allocated for wet gear you don't want in the Shaggin' Space.

Are people still camping in UK or are we packing up for Winter coming?

100% agree. I bought the Forclaz 2 when recently in France for about £50. Outstanding tent. Light, easy to put up and very waterproof. It was tested in some monumental downpours and kept me and my gear completely dry.

That's near identical to the Vango Banshee I bought for the Wales trip. Paid about 90 quid from memory.

It's a good little unit. The only issue I had was getting in and out of it in the rain which is why something like the Nova, if you can handle the pack size difference, is perhaps better as you've the small porch out front to save dragging water in.

Got the Urban Escape Altai 2 from Halfords last year for £60, did me and the missus for a rally and a little lakes tour), not the best quality but reasonable size (both packed and in use) and weight.

Still on offer I see
https://www.halfords.com/camping-leisure/camping/tents/urban-escape-altai-2-man-tent

We were a little over packed in fairness, the tent took up the least space.

https://i1211.photobucket.com/albums/cc425/8Moxey8/Conniston%2001%2009%2015/Coni%201_zpscz4mhy25.jpg[/url]

And set up

https://i1211.photobucket.com/albums/cc425/8Moxey8/Conniston%2001%2009%2015/Coni%2012_zpsb85iblqd.jpg

On my own though i usually use my Vango Banshee 300, ex display for £80, keep an eye on ebay for one although I find it a little cramped even just me so been thinking of an Omega 350 but they usually fetch more £ whilst probably not beating the Altai much for costing 3-4 times the amount.

The ultralight 2 is consideraby more roomy inside than the Banshee 200 and you only have to put up one pole. It also has a door on each side. The porch is still pretty small but perhaps a little larger than the banshee. More a boot porch really.

Pack size is very similar.

I did a fairly shonky video of it.

Must be a new feature.

I lived in a Banshee 200 for 3 months a few years back and it definately only had one door.

The 2014 or 2015 onwards has 2 doors. I just bought the 300 off Amazon for camping with a mate later this year, had to make sure it was the latest version as the older ones have just the one door as you say. Wish I'd seen that Eurohike one tho, it's on special on that link for half the price I paid for mine.

Just bought me a Vango Tempest 300 for the BBQ.

I was going for the Banshee initially, but the porch on the tempest looks much more generous.

I have a Vango Omega 350, Very happy with it.

https://www.outdoormegastore.co.uk/media/catalog/product/v/a/vangoomega3502011.gif

Quality is excellent (although I did have to take the first one back as a line of toggles wasn't sewn on properly) Just spent a weekend in the highlands with it and came away bone dry. It packs small for it's size and the big porch is great.

After borrowing a Vango Ark 200+ for the weekend, the extra porch space proved invaluable for two peoples gear. The separate inner tent meant overall inside temperature was higher because the cold outside air was not directly against the sleeping quarters. Much recommended. Many thumbs up Thumbs Up

(Tent to the right. The entire section closest to the log/people was porch/storage. Wonderful)

The colour makes your veins stand out. Otherwise fine. My vango spirit 200 was orage/red.
