What are those white rectangular plates spaced about twenty meters apart at the side of the track? They have what looks like a nob that slides up and down on the right hand and some code numbers on the left and are about 10"x8" in size.

Dont they measure the correct height of the track at different points?

Had no idea thats what they were called though
