My car tax is due 4th May. I have a direct debit set up but I have since changed banks and the account that the direct debit is set up on is now closed.

I have received no tax reminder letter, therefore I can't seem to tax my car online.

The Gov website says contact my old bank and close the direct debit, and then apply again for tax with my new bank account, but even if I did this, I can't seem to renew my tax online as I don't have a reminder letter and the 16 digit reference number.

Any ideas?

You only need the 11 digit reference number from your V5 to tax, online, without the reminder, I did it last week!

How did you change banks?
If it was the 7 day switch service (closes old account). Then the DD should be on your new account.
Just check for the DD with your new bank either by phone or online banking Thumbs Up

So the system is saying my tax is due 1st May 2017. So I'm assuming the direct debit payment has gone through to my closed bank account, and should be redirected to my current bank account within the next couple of days?

Just want to make sure.

I think I did it manually. So I didn't use their 7 day switch service.

Unless you used the 7 day switch, then it will not redirect. The bank will bounce it back to the DVLA as a closed account.

If you did the switch yourself, then that means you updated every company you had a DD set up with your new account details. If you have not and they are now being paid out of your new bank account, then I think you must have used the 7 day switch service.

I suggest you contact the DVLA, or check your account tomorrow to see if it's debited, might not show till later in day. But if its set up on your account. It will be listed in the DD's section.
