Hello all

I've got a few queries about my bike that I'd really appreciate having answered.
The GSX F 2004 comes with a Fuel Reserve and is operated by a switch on the left hand side of the bike. The far right setting is to Prime a bike after a long winter/left to stand, the second is "on" for standard use and the third is "reserve".
Will the bike continue to run when the fuel gauge is in the red and the switch set to "on", or will it cut out. I want to know when I will need to switch to reserve. This is a hypothetical question as I try to fill up the bike above when it reaches a 1/4 tank left.

The age old question of warming the bike up is next; it's oil cooled and comes with a choke. In warmer weather, or when the bike has recently been run, it needs little to coax it up to temperature. Cold starts however are a different matter. How long should I keep the choke on when cold starting? Also, the rev counter goes up to 5/6 when it's on full, should I leave it at this or should I pull back on the choke and aim to keep the revs below 3?

Thanks!

Choke on to start it, ride away gently and knock it off after a mile.

With the tap, it'll start spluttering. Probably around the 130 mile mark possibly. That is when you switch to reserve.

On my GSXF I only need the choke for about 30-60 seconds and then I can turn it off, but I've not long had the carbs stripped and cleaned so it starts and runs great. On full choke the max it revs is 4.5k. As for when to switch to reserve, watch my vid lol https://youtu.be/ZYp5n41mhLA I usually get about 180 miles until reserve if ridden enthusiastically Very Happy Laughing

For as little time as necessary. I use full choke for the first few yards and then push it roughly halfway in. It's a solid engine, you'll not hurt it.

Good God we agree on something.

Choke makes your bike run rich. Rich fuel washes oil off the bores and promotes wear. 99% of the time it's nothing to worry about, just turn off the choke as soon as you can. Thumbs Up

I have just bought my 1998 gsx750f it has done less than 300 miles in the last 3 years, would u recommend a carb strip?
The bike seems to run great but as I have no history of the bike I don't know if a minor service will be sufficent.

If it seems to run OK then why spend? It'll soon start to let you know if it wants it's carbs cleaning. You say you've just bought it, I bet with regular use it'll start to protest a bit.

If you're into preventative maintenance though it wouldn't harm anything to get it done Thumbs Up
