Hi, newbie here. Can anybody succseeded insure their bike (over 598cc) to use for learning and doing mod1 & mod2. I want to use my own bike to take training and then do boath mod's. Tried comparison sites- no luck, nobody wants to insure me.
I hold full car licence, cbt, theory test done. 32 year old.
Any advise how to get insurance. Thanks

www.bikesure.co.uk will do it, although you may not like the price.

Are you aware that to train on it, you'll have to be accompanied by and in radio contact with a certified instructor? They'd have to come out to you.

It's do-able, but you might find it easier and perhaps cheaper to use a training school bike.

Bennetts will also insure you.
My wife bought an ER5 to learn on (none of the school bikes were low enough for her!!).
We insured it in her name as the main rider on a provisional license and me down as a named rider (both with no NCD).
Third party, fire & theft was £101.86 for the year.
We're both in our 40's, the bike's not declared as being garaged. No alarm or security declared either.

Have you checked with the training schools if they will allow you to use your own bike for the training?
Also how do you plan on getting it to and from the training school as well as test centre.

Seems like a lot of hassle when you could just use theirs then do a new bike or similar course after if your still not confident enough to ride your own bike after passing.

im in a similar position as you, let me know how much it will cost to insure. i am weighing up the options currently, may buy my own bike and throw it in the van to site for tests. it isnt the training costs that put me off it is the mod1 and mod2 cost for using the schools bike, especially if you fail and have to retake a test thats another couple hundred

I will definitely recommend using the schools bike.
I got insured for 4 days of practice including MOD1 and MOD2 for £40 (2016 prices - last month).
Cost is minimum and you avoid the hassle and worries if touch wood anything happens.
