PostPosted: 17:31 - 18 Apr 2016    Post subject: My neighbour moved my bike! Reply with quote

Hi all! I'm new to this forum - joined today as I'd like some advice on something (I hope I've posted this in the right place, I'm not sure where to post such questions).

I own a Suzuki VanVan 125 and live on a main road. There's limited parking outside but there's roads opposite that have enough parking for everyone should our road be full. I don't have a garage but I often use a friends garage to store my bike. I live above a shop which has CCTV looking out so when I do park outside my house I leave it right outside the shop so that it's visible by the shop's CCTV.

This morning I woke up to find that my bike had been moved a few meters up the road and upon checking the camera footage realised it's my neighbour (who I don't really know) dragged the bike away so that he could park his car. I haven't confronted him yet but plan to later when he's home. It's infuriating that he felt he even felt it was ok to do this, but also because the bike was then left out of view of the camera. I wasn't parked inconsiderately - when I parked the bike it was a normal distance from another car. When he decided to move it it was because his girlfriends car was larger than the one that left the space. That's just hard luck as far as I'm concerned... it certainly doesn't give him the right to drag my bike up the road!

I know it's only a little bike but this has really frustrated me.
What would anyone else do in my situation?

put a chain, disc lock or similar on it so he can't move it again.
Wouldn't bother saying anything personally can't imagine he will be receptive to anything you have to say if he thinks its alright to move folks stuff about as he pleases.

It has a disc lock on it! It's only a little bike, he literally grabbed it and dragged it out of the way Evil or Very Mad

Go into his garden and start dragging his flowers around. When he asks what you think you are doing tell him the exact same as what he was doing when he dragged your bike out of the way.

Or failing that, have him done for attempted theft, If you have the CCTV footage, Sorry officer, looks to me like he was trying to steal it.

I like the flowers method. Gentle, yet firm.

I do have the footage. This is the second time he's done it too - it's actually a small flat with 2 or 3 guys living in it. I think they're greek or something. The first time they did it I actually caught them in the act and ran outside to shout at them... then realised there was 3 big guys and little old me (I'm tall and skinny - they're all bigger than me). I asked what the hell they were doing and they said "sorry, we're just trying to park the car". I explained that I leave the bike there because of the camera and if it's in their way I'd prefer they speak to me rather than just picking it up! That was last year. Last night the guy came home at about midnight with his girlfriend. He got out of the car and dragged the bike up the road so she could park... then they both came back out at 3:30am and drove off. I think he was showing off to her and I'm going to confront him about it - the guys a complete dick.

sorry, still fuming!

It's another flat above the shop next door so they don't have a garden unfortunately Sad If they had a garden I'd be parking in it so he can have the roadside spot anytime he wants Razz

In which case,
Move your bike into your friends garage, then have a word with him and fully expect him to be a dick.
point out that your bike is now nowhere to be seen and when you checked cctv he was the one moving it away, might make him worry enough that he won't do it again.
Then go to the police and say he stole it and you have cctv evidence.
Would be all the better f you could place your bike into his garden for when the police turn up.

If you've got video evidence go to the police. It might be an offence of 'Interfering with a motor vehicle', plus if he's caused any damage whatsoever there's the possibility of 'Criminal damage'. Ask nicely to talk to an inspector if the front desk fobs you off.

haha - I like your style! This would be ideal however the footage makes it kind of clear that he just moved it and went into his house... I'm sure it would raise some questions but there's a few shops along this road and they probably have CCTV footage to prove that I moved it later - then I'd presumably get done for wasting police time!

Or stick bike in garage

Tell him he owes you money for repairs as damaged when moved

I don't think there's any damage - it just p*****d me off a lot! I might use this when I talk to him though. Warn him that if he does it again I won't speak to him, I'll speak to the police.

my other suggestion would be some wheel clamps. If he moves your bike I think its fair he can't move his car.

Hi.

Seeing as he has friends id use the non confrontational approach of a nail facing up and into the tread either side of his tyres

Rinse and repeat.

I'm going to try and keep my cool and give him a warning this time. If it happens again I won't be playing Mr Nice Guy.

I'm glad I'm not alone on this matter - hence why I started the thread. I wanted to ensure I wasn't worrying too much but this has kind of confirmed my initial "WTF?!" attitude was justified.

If its happened more than once the time has passed to be nice.

By all means avoid the camera. But no one can be identified wearing a hood and cap.

I know first hand when its required. And when billy big bollocks realises him playing the hard man infront of a bird costs him 60 a pop he'll think twice .

Otherwise the easier and better option is to walk past the car, and drag a sharp nail down it.

Or mix up some gloss and other paints in a washing up liquid bottle and go crazy. Add a straw to that to work on physics and no need to go against gravity.

Have fun.

Just an idea, alarmed disc lock? Might dissuade him in future.

How about an alarmed disc lock or similar? I know a lot of these things seem to have a mind of their own, but it might be nice to have something fitted that will start screaming if he tries moving it again.

I wouldn't enter into a conversation with him, just knock on his door, when he comes to the door say "Leave my bike alone" then walk away.

This gives him no chance to defend himself, he knows he has been caught with his fingers in the till and will be wondering how you know. Once all that has settled in his brain, he will think it would be a bad idea to move it again, unless he is a moron. In that case, go see plod and ask what your options are.

No doubt. He touched your shit without permission.

What if he had dropped it? Do you think he'd be knockin' on your door to pay for the damages?

Only if he knows he's been caught (inform him of the CCTV) would he do such a thing. Otherwise, he'd get away with it.

Just as he is now...

My suggestion is purely to bait him. Deliberately park it where it inconveniences him and try to catch him in the act (alarm fitted), "Hey, why are you touching my shit again, Greek boy?"

All else fails- sleep with his girlfriend.
