Gentleman I work with is a biker as well and recently (this weekend) came back from Calais on the Ferry. He went to France for a long weekend as his folks moved there sometime ago. Whilst over there he met a guy that lived in England that had his bike stolen (or so he says) and was desperate to get back to the U.K (the bloke had leathers and helmet etc). Colleague being ever generous; gave him a lift to the ferry (pillion) and off the other side and into Lewisham where Colleague lives. Plan was to drop the bloke at a tube station so he could get back to Manchester where he said he lived.

Here's the problem. Colleague gets caught speeding on the M20 and pulled over by the police. Gets off the bike and his pillion starts to leg it, the other officer in the patrol car apprehends the guy doing the runner. Turns out the guy is Albanian and should not legally be here. Work colleague spills his guts and tells the officer everything and is now on bail for bringing someone illegally into the country. Passport checks were not done on the Ferry so my work colleague is denying accountability, what if anything could happen?

I've refrained from using the word friend as he isn't, just feel a little sorry for him, he's a good hearted soul.

Anyone bringing anyone into the country is responsible for checking and making sure they have a right to be here, is the line they take. Look at HGV drivers with no idea they had a wagon of contortionist immigrants hiding in boxes facing charges.

Soft hearted gets you fucked by those that aren't so soft hearted, sad to say.

I can't decide who's the most gullible/naive one here....You or your friend work colleague.
The whole story wreaks of shit and reminds me of this other bleeding-heart tosser.

Thumbs Up

Before the end of the first sentence it was clear how the rest of the story was going to unfold.

It's so blindingly obvious that "your work colleague" can try denying accountability and claiming ignorance all day but even if those were valid defences, I wouldn't want to bet on anyone believing him.

No wonder your work colleague helped him out....

Your mate for knowingly trying to sneak an illegal into the country. Or you for believing this guy's story rather than assuming that he knew exactly what he was doing and asking how much money changed hands.

"Exkoose me squire, I em eh Breetish gent and mah bahke es bin stuhlen."

Regardless of your opinion on asylum/immigration etc, the law is pretty clear.

No. That is not what I wrote. I live in Tooting, the majority have a right to be there and have a legal status, I'd estimate 40% do not have a British accent, the bloke told my colleague that he lived in Manchester, very believable.

Cool story though, if true.

Did the guy have anything from the UK on him? Bank Card, Driving Licence, did he have a Sainsbury reward card or anything? Why has he taken a random guys work for it?

I'm guessing your pal never watches the news, in a country this fucked that alone is reprehensible.
I say, throw the book at him, if true. Big hearted idiots are just the sort of mug these jackals look for.
For future reference, whenever an Albanian speaks to a non albanian, my default assumption is that he's lying.
I worked with enough of the slippery buggers on building sites in London to have learned that lesson in
the tea hut without it me costing 2k, it did cost me a 79p packet of chocolate digestives that the bastard
stole then denied. I'm afraid your pal deserves everything he gets not for what he did, but for being thick
enough to believe a sob story from anybody approaching him in the Calais area. Hopefully a £2000 size
dent in his wallet will teach him what common sense, the news or living in an already highly invaded bit
of the country like Lewisham seems to have completely failed to teach him. Absolutely zero sympathy for him
or them. And yes I have written off an entire race of people over a pack of biscuits, these people always start small. Tut Tut

You're not wrong though. Johnny Abroadlander's not to be trusted, here or anywhere else. It's a cultural thing.

I wouldn't trust the crap from any of the channel's news. it's dumbed down sensationalised crap.

The ever so helpful chap is clearly a mug, twice over.
Firstly for bringing the guy across the channel, and secondly for then confessing all to the police and landing himself in it.

Also, I thought the M20 was known for being quite well policed in terms of catching speeders, both rushing for the ferry, and those coming off and rushing to get home. I only head that way a couple of times a year, but I'm always super paranoid on that stretch.

We both work for HMRC so are DBS checked throughout the year. As for spilling his guts to the police, it was the only way to be sure he maintained his integrity, as if anything shows up on DBS we are interviewed by H.R.

How did he not get asked for passport at the ferry, surely not hiding in top box?

It's BCF, of course it's going to get messy. Razz

I presume someone has already emailed HR @ HMRC?

And before posts get edited:

Why would the post get edited. It's all true. I live in Tooting on Garratt lane, colleague lives in Lewisham and the Albanian claimed to have lived in Manchester. That is all fact. He brought him in on the back of his bike and blasted past an unmarked cop car the wrong side of 90 and got pulled for speeding. All true. No need to edit.
