I'm off to south east asia and I heard that there are widely available bike hire shops. I would quite like to bike around the rainforests of cambodia or the mountains of Irian Jaya and I was wondering if anyone has done this or something like it.
I only have a CBT for a 125 and I not sure what licenses they will accept.

All help appreciated.
Ollie

My girlfriend's off to Cambodia soon, and she's got one of those Lonely Planet guides. It's got a section about hiring/buying bikes out there so if I remember I'll dig it out and see what it says. Smile

My boring view: Don't do it. You have very little experience, thus setting off into the mountains on a bike is a bad idea. You'll either get robbed, or crash, or a combination of the two.

Doubt they'll care much about your license tbh.

Are you planning on going on your own?

On the DVLA website, it says that only a full UK licences are recognized (also A1 etc.) in foreign countries.

Other countries don't accept our provisional licence, and we don't accept their equivalents...

Also, in some countries, they like to put a minimum age on car/bike rental (for example the canadian company were using in the summer has a 24yo limit on cars)

Most rental firms ask to see you documentation of your licence when you rent (both photocard and paperwork), so if you don't have that you probably can't hire.

hope that helps,
Loz

Do your bunch of mates or yourself have much riding experience? And a very good mechanical knowledge? As you'll be wanting both of them for riding there, and fixing bits which break. Penny Coin Penny Coin
